Hey old guy, you’re a donkey.

So our trip to Central City / Blackhawk was great. We had a really good time. The drive up was really relaxing and it’s always nice to drive through the mountains. This really is a beautiful state. The only tough part was driving next to the river. It’s the river my brother drowned in and it runs along Hwy 119 all the way into Blackhawk. I can’t help but to think of his three year old body being pulled down that river whenever I see it. Had I not watched him be dragged away when I was 4, it may not be so ough now, but I remember it all like it was just this morning. Anyhow, our plan was to eat lunch on the way, but after we got off I-70 there really wasn’t anywhere to stop. It’s a straight shot after that. Instead we pulled into our hotel parking garage and went in to find something to eat. We ended up (after a bit of walking) at Quiznos, it was not good. After lunch we hopped back into Penelope (Lang’s new PT Cruiser) and headed farther up the mountain to find Dory Hills Cemetery where my brother and dad are buried. So we found the cemetery with no problem, I mean I hadn’t been there in five or six years, but I remembered where it was. I was driving so I pulled in and parked right where I always have. I walked directly to where they were buried and found nothing. There were a few other graves around including one new one, but the grave where the two of them were was gone. I found the trees I sat next to last time I visited and saw a grave that I remember seeing next to them, but could not find them. Lang and I wandered for about 15 minutes looking for them, but were unable to located the grave. We were going to leave when I decided to check over by the fence (just because it felt like the only place I hadn’t looked yet) and there they were. Now it may have been six years since I’ve been up there but I am positive that was not where they were. I have a sneaking suspicion that they were moved when they put in the new grave. The graveyard is not typical by any means. It’s up in the mountains on the side of a hill. It’s overgrown with trees and bushes and if not for the taller gravestones you would not even be able to tell it was a graveyard. There are a number of graves without markers and the whole place is in shambles. So I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Anyway,

So after we found them and I stood for a few minutes we headed back down to the casino/hotel to check in. We did and we hug out in the room for a few minute (well okay it was about an hour and a half 😉 ) and then we headed out to see what they had to offer. We lost some money on some slots and video poker then we ventured off to find a poker room and see what tournaments were coming up. I ended up sitting in on one at 7pm. It was fun and I played really well. I was chip leader right before we went to the final table, but right before the break I bet 3500 preflop (sorry if you don’t know about Texas Hold’em this will make no sense) and this old guy called me with 6-7 offsuit! It was more than half his chips and he called. What a terrible move. I was holding fish hooks (or pocket jacks) and went all in when the flop came all under cards. he called and showed his TWO PAIR, the flop was 6, 7, 2. Then he hit a 7 on the river. So when we moved to the final table I was the second to the shortest stack. You can’t play right in a tournament like that with no chips. I won another small hand or two and managed to make it just one place outside the money before the blinds finally caught up with me.

Wow, this is boring me and I was the one that was there.

So quick overview of the rest of the weekend. I played live poker and won about $200 then lost a bit off it back but ended up on the good side of where I started. Then the next morning I got treated like crap while playing live just for being less than 65 years old. A bunch of old guys thought that since I was young it was okay to talk shit to me. They’re lucky I’m a good guy or I would have rolled them for their AARP cards in the parking lot. I played another tournament and got cold decked like no other. Out of the maybe 200 hangs I saw only one was even a tier two hand. So I lost, because you can only play so long when your hands are all 7-2 offsuit.

Okay this is the end because I doubt anyone will read this far anyway. I had a great time with Lang and look forward to more outings with her in the future.

It really was a great time! Sorry you got cold-decked and had too many run-ins with old folks. Next time’ll be better. This was a good experience to get our feet wet, though.More outings will be awesome. Maybe next time we’ll take pictures. You know, when we both win thousands of dollars or something.CB,

Hopefully, the county clerk and recorder can help with the grave situation. It’s still totally messed up either way.CB,

Let’s see…out of this entry, I recognized the words “shortest stack,” though I doubt you’re referring to pancakes as I initially thought…
