The Mask

All the layers that hide the truth

reveal the lies inside

a heart of black

a mask of trust

that everyone seems to buy

paste the fake smile on your face

hide the pain inside

hold back all emotion

forget what it means to feel

nothing in the world is true and even less is real

keep telling yourself that you are safe

behind this wall you build

block out the love that you are shown

seal those burning tears

lock away your secrets deep

never reveal the fears you keep

walk down the road alone

pretend that everything is fine

that your world isn’t falling apart

and live your life behind the mask

that doesn’t reveal yourself

That’s intense, beautiful, but intense. I hope that writing down those thoughts helps you to cope. And just when things seem to be the worst, they usually get better.
