I have my work cut out for me

Yeah… that isn’t exactly the goal that I am shooting for but a diet and exercise plan was "perscribed" to me by my doctor yesterday. He told me that my cholesterol is 193 and of that 66 is good (HDL) cholesterol which means that my bad cholesterol is at 127 and for my age it should be 100 points or below and mine is 27 points over. *jumps up and down for joy…. sarcastically*

So my doctor told me that I need to change my diet and do 30min or cardio atleast 3 times a week for the next 6 months and then I have to go back for another blood test. If its still not down I have another 6 months of trying on my own and then if that still doesn’t work he is going to put me on medication. I am hoping to avoid the whole medication thing, I am trying to get into natural healing and herbal remedies and such things and having to take medication would just hinder all of that. I have started reading through herb books and I hope to get good at that but its going to take time. Just more things that I am trying to stuff into my head.

So starting next week I am going to have to change how I eat and how I workout. Yoga isn’t enough and bellydance isn’t enough cardio so I am going to have to add. I have thought about picking up Turbo Jam since that is big on cardio and still a work out. I don’t quite know how I am going to change my diet… I know that I need to add more fruit and vegetables and cut out the shellfish and soda and sugar like ice cream so I think that I am going to have to start a food journal to help keep me on track. I’m sure it will help me drop the weight that I want to drop so all in all I guess this is a good thing to keep me motivated on my diet. I would like to drop atleast 30 points the next time I take a blood test and I have until the end of March to do so.

I think I can do this… maybe Chris will help and we can work on getting healthier together.

I don’t know if he would though.

Holistic approaches are always better than medications. Besides most doctor’s monies come form pharmasutical companies who only have dollar signs in their best interests. Work out wise if you need something to change up pace try P90X you won’t be disapointed. I’ve lost 2 inches off my waist in 2 weeks and have never felt better. Just a thought though =) Peace and blessings be with you.

Well…having worked for a doctor’s office and known people who do, your previous noter isn’t entirely correct. A lot of doctors don’t make money from pharmaceutical companies. However, they can’t make money from your insurance company unless they have an actual problem to bill them for. That means the more reasons you have to visit, the more money they make from your insurance.

In other news, the cardio, clearly you don’t take my class. My students could tell you, they get their cardio in when they dance with me! However, on a more serious level, try doing a shimmy drill for the thirty minutes. That’ll get your cardio in! There’s also a Tribal Cardio DVD which I hear is pretty good for cardio. Just some suggestions. Good luck!
