7 years later
Today marks the anniversary of one of the most horrible days in our country’s history, September 11, 2001. A day that many of us would like to have never been through, a day that many of us wish would have never happened and most importantly a day that all of us can never and should never forget.
It has been seven years since the tragedy that happened that has forever changed the world we live in. Nothing will ever be the same. The Twin Towers fell and the Pentagon was hit and so many people lost their lives. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends all lost in a terrible tragedy when the world stopped to watch the horror unfold on television. I never imagined I would ever witness something like that happen. I saw the second tower fall on television and I never felt so helpless in my life. To watch it all happen and know that there was nothing I could do but watch it unfold. It was awful.
And it has changed my life. Sure, I have to take off my shoes at the airport now and put things in clear bottles and plastic bags but it is so much more then that. The world is a different place emotionally. Our brave men and woman of the military are off overseas fighting for our country time and time again, deployment after deployment and there are families that are left behind missing their loved ones, just as there are families left behind missing the loved ones they lost that day.
It is so very important that we never forget that day and what happened. We must remember the people who lost their lives, the rescue workers who tried to save the lives and all the families that were and still are affected.
Today we must remember those who were lost, how all of us were and are affected, those who are away from their families fighting and those families who are missing their loved ones so far away.
We must never forget.

This is the sad part. Living on an Army post and seeing how many people who did forget, how many did not so much as pause to remember the day. I’ll admit, even I didn’t take a moment. However, we were too busy with the loss of a soldier to take notice. Sadly, this year it was a day of yet another death for us. What a way to commemorate a tragic event, huh?
