Trials of Motherhood
From previous entry:
I spoke with voice teacher, she didn’t know what was going on but suggested I call JD’s old piano teacher as she would be going to festival and could accompany DJ, they have worked together in the past and know each other well. So I call piano teacher and she says she will look over her schedule and call me back. She calls me back and says she would have time but I REALLY need to talk to band teacher first……Do you know something I should know, I innocently ask? Call band teacher she says…………..so……………….
I call band teacher and explain what I know, what I have arranged and so on. She explains to me that the reason she had cancelled DJs solo was because she didn’t show up for any of her practices that were convienently scheduled for her after school. (No one told me about practices). She said DJ told her just last Thursday that she wasn’t coming because she had play practice every night after school. But, there were other times during the day (lunch recess, study hall) that she could have signed up to come in, and didn’t. So she was afraid DJ would be unprepared, and that what she had hoped to be a positive experience would be not good. I told her that DJ had been working hard with voice teacher, that piano teacher would play and that I really wanted her to do this for the experience and the information the judges could provide her with. She finally conceeded to let her go ahead, but voiced great disappointment with voice teacher, who she thought was going to festival and is not…………………so……………..
Mr M and I have a little chat with DJ after we all get home. Why did you ditch practices…they were all after school and I had play practice……why then didn’t you talk to band teacher and arrange one of the other times….I don’t know….and on it went. We discussed responsibilty associated with signing up for these things. How the teacher needs to be respected, that she has many students, not just DJ. I asked her to go in and apologize to band teacher today.
But in the end, she will sing her song at festival and I am worn out.
