Hunting Season

It has been a long and exciting hunting season at our house.  It started in Sept with Bow season.  On opening day I got a whitetail doe with my new bow.  DJ made jerky the next day.  Mr M shot a big whitetail buck with his bow later in Sept.

In Oct antelope season opened and I got a nice buck one afternoon.  JD had a tag too, but was having a bit of trouble.  This was her first antelope hunting and she found out just how fast those critters are.  Well deer season opened and we all 4 went out.  JD ended up getting her antelope buck and a mule deer buck on that day.  We decided to call it a day after that, no more room in the truck!

MR M took DJ out deer hunting on Veterans Day and they saw some great deer, but she just didn’t get the shot she wanted so came home without a deer.  She was reluctant to go out again after that day.  I’m not sure why.

Mr M and I went out on Thanksgiving morning and he filled his doe tag.  I missed a crazy whitetail buck who was running a herd of mule deer does.  I got off at noon on Friday so we headed out again.  Found that same whitetail buck, but it was too cold, too windy, and he was too far away to go chasing.  So Sat morning we loaded up and went into the south country where DJ had seen that other nice buck.  We got the area and Mr M spotted a good one about a mile and a half away.  We walked the walk and I was got a great 5 X 4 muley.  Luckily there was a road that came around the other side so we only had to haul him about 1/4 mile to get him out.

Sunday was the last day of season.  DJ still had a tag.  She said she was ready to go.  So she and Mr M took off about 9:00 to go look for the crazy whitetail.  When they got there, the whitetail was gone, but Mr Muley had taken over the herd and DJ made a great stalk and got him!  Her buck is bigger than both JD’s and mine.  In fact it is bigger than my last year one too !  She is thrilled.

So we have lots of meat for the winter.  Sure will miss the elk meat we had last year.

I count 8 total,,that’s awesome…I love deer jerkey, but I love elk meat most of all. You may think I am anti-hunting, but I am not…I am anti-ATV…and the mountains here are so close to 500,000 people that the hunters fill every nook and crannie and are ready to shoot at anything that moves…so I hate hunting “season” becasue it is not safe to be out in the wilds. Congrats to you and yours
