Glad to be Alive**edit

Well, let me tell you a story…..

Yesterday evening JD had to attend a volleyball match at the HS and DJ had a soccer game by the elementary school at the same time.  Since JD was not actually playing, I attended the soccer game.  After soccer, DJ and I went to the HS to get JD.  She said it would be about another 1/2 hour or so before she could leave so DJ and I decided to run on home and I left my cell phone with JD to call when she was ready to come home.

Off we went towards home.  There is a gravel road that runs behind the HS and connects up to our highway and is the shortest route home.  I don’t like to take that road much as it is so heavily used and very washboardy and curvey and I have actually run my car off the road on those curves once when it was very wet and slick…but last night I took that road.

We were just coming up over the little rise before it meets up to the highway and a car coming from the opposite direction came from the road across the highway (they had to be going at least 70) jumped the highway (they were actually airborn) lands just in front of us, swerves all over and continues on.  I yelled at them as they hurled past us.  If I would have had my cell phone (which I had just left with JD) I would have called the police that very instant.  We had to sit at the intersection to the highway for several minutes before the dust settled enough to see if any other cars were coming.

Well, we got home a little after 7:00 and started getting dinner ready.  Then just before 7:30, JD called and said she was done.  So I jump back into the Yukon and head back down the road to get her.  I get to that short cut road and notice flashing lights up on the curves (at first I think GOOD, they stopped those stupid kids) then I realize it is police and ambulance lights.  Yup, you guessed it, they had crashed.  It looked like they had rolled at least twice and the car was out in a field on its side.

I heard this morning that one of the kids was injured (don’t know to what extent).  MR M spoke with chief of police and told them what I had seen and experienced, so I guess if they want a statement they know where to find me.

My boss had been at the school track when all of this happened and had seen me leave the parking lot, then saw the cops and ambulance rush out there and said he and another lady ran over there to make sure it wasn’t me, as they had not seen any other cars go down that road at all…I told him, as I walked in this morning when he asked (as he does each morning) "How are you today?",  I’m glad to be alive!

**edit**  I just heard that one of the boys in the car has a broken neck and was flown to the big city hospital
