Cross Country

Speedy DJ has been at it again.  Last week she was in the annual elementary school 400M cross country race, and won the 6th grade girls race by two seconds with a time of 1:13.  She started out 4th in the pack, then easily overtook 2 runners, cruised passed the third about 1/2 way through, then in the last 75M opened up her stride and whipped by the lead runner to come in first.   She gasped as she finished, " I did it just like my daddy taught me!"  Then she proceeded to tell me that she was going to sign up to run cross country in Jr high next year.  We had been having some debate about that.  I thought she should at least try it one year.  She is such a natural runner, everyone who knows about running says so.  Of course the cross country coach has been planting seeds, telling her how he wants her on his team and such.  She is concerned about the distance, never having run much distance.  But like I told her, she can run for 1 hour almost solid playing soccer and it doesn’t seem to bother her too much,  so I would think that after some training 1.5 miles wouldn’t be out of her reach.  She’s gonna try it I think.

Congradulations on the race. Thats so nice to see when a parents that excited for the childs accomplishments. I love to see that. We need more of that and maybe the children of today wouldn’t be so distructive. She sounds like she would do a good job with the running because she likes it.
