My Rut
It seems as if my days follow the same pattern. I get up, I shower, I go to work, I come home, I eat dinner, I sit around, I go to bed. Every morning I wake up at the same time, whether I have the alarm clock set or not. Each night, I get sleepy at the same time. It’s never ending and without fail.
This puts a strain on many aspects of my life. I want to write in here more but there’s a catch. I write better when I have extreme emotions in me. Whether it’s anger or happiness or sadness, the words just flow more smoothly from my fingertips. When I’m stuck in this rut as I am now, I just can’t seem to get my brain in gear to transfer thoughts out of my head and into my fingers.
Another area I’m straining at right now is my relationship. Sharon and I love each other, that’s unquestionable. But we’re stuck in a rut with our relationship as well. This is where I really start to have troubles. I’m not an imaginative guy when it comes to romance. I’m like an old dog, I only know a few tricks and I have trouble learning new ones. I know flowers, I know dinner, I know compliments. Above and beyond those, I just don’t know what to do.
That’s why I need to get out of my rut. I’m hoping that if I can start finding new things to do in my everday life, then that’ll transfer over to other aspects of my life. It might help me to think of that one big thing I can do at work to get noticed by the higher ups and get a promotion. It might help me to make the big romantic gesture that I so want to make for Sharon this Valentine’s Day.
I wonder if it’ll help me to bang my head on the desk for a little while?
The thing is, everyone is in the same rut. Bad new, right? Everyone’s doing the same stuff you are, eat sleep drink … it’s a kind of reality … one that hits all couples after a while. Do a little research online and maybe hit a bookstore for about 15 minutes and look through some books in the relationships section, that is what they are there for.

You can have the fantasy romance ALL the time, but you can find a way to spice things up. There are a lot of games for adults, and set some goals to try new things that you would have never thought of before.

I bought Andy a book called “1001 Ways to be Romantic” on Amazon after the Valentine’s Day Failure of 2004. He’s used some of the ideas in there (but be warned, they range from free to outrageously expensive).
