I have found joy!

and thy name is strawberry milkshake pop-tarts!

lol

s’mores used to be my favorite, but i think the strawberry milkshake is coming up close second.  🙂

so yeah, i really have nothing to talk about.  literally.  ever…

I just wrote an email to the opinion guy from our local news station.  i usually agree with him 100%, but this time I didn’t.

it was simply this:
some millionaire gave $1 million dollars to the Seattle Art Museum if they would make a public fountain, and it had to depict one nude male.

so SAM (Seattle Art Museum) chose a fountain of nude male reaching out for a small nude boy.  It is a father and son scene.

basically the opinion guy compared it to pedophilia, alter boys and priests.

now, i don’t usually mind stabs like that, but this time, for some reason…  so i had to email him back.

here’s the link to his commentary:

here is what i wrote:

This does not happen very often, but I actually disagree with you.

I understand the thought and sentiment behind it being offensive, but to me that’s the challenge of art.  To look at something benign (or not) and see past the stigmas that can come with a scene such as the nude father and son.  Even in art as propitious as Thomas Kinkade, who I find very fascinating, as his works are often more than what they seem.

Is this more about the thought of it being offensive, or is it because we can’t openly discuss the aspects, and offensiveness, of this fountain.  I have found more often than not (in situations regarding art’s propensity to be offensive) that I am alone with but a few other people, losing a battle to those who are incapable of discussing art without setting aside their feelings towards something.  To truly understand anything, you have to be able to remove yourself from it.

Or… maybe its just me.  I live in the world of art, and perhaps that has made me blind to the fact that things are offensive no matter how you look at it.

But then again, how can you tell without giving it a chance.

Best Regards, and keep up the good work

so thats it.  *shrugs* not much.  but it was a retort.  we’ll see if i get my name in the paper or news tomorrow. lol
