and boy do i have a story for you…
well… not a story so much.
so, last night didn’t go as well as we would have liked it to go. it was bad per se, and my family enjoyed it… but we had some serious mishaps.
mishap 1: during an argument Carmen is supposed to throw my gun, knife, and jacket across the stage. in doing so however the gun (which is needed for a later fight) goes flying off the front of the stage. that was a little awkward retrieving it… but we made it work.
mishap 2: Escamillo came in to early and i was still dragging a body across stage… (yeah, that was bad). we hid it well.
mishap 3: after the fight with Escamillo, i am laying on the ground trying to catch my breath. as he walks up to me, the lights begin to dim and suddenly we’re in the middle of a full on blackout. however he still has about five lines to sing and then i have a massive aria. lights came back just before my aria. very awkward.
mishap 4: also because of the darkening of the lights, Carmen tripped over my foot after giving me the knife. she felt it ruined the severity of the scene.
mishap 5: Lucia and Anya (Carmen and Pastia respectively) were laughing so hard about the lights going out that Lucia missed her entrance in the middle of my aria. she’s a pro though. i’m sure she covered well.
mishap 6: canned music was WAY too loud.
mishap 7: (this is out of order) i put the knife behind a belt loop on my pants and Carmen couldn’t get the knife off my belt because they got tangled.
i know there were some others, but those were the ones i saw/happened to me. us singers laughed it off… but our stage manager (a close friend of mine) took it pretty hard. all in all, however, the show went really well (i think).
still… i didn’t feel nearly as good about this one as i did in Wenatchee. oh well. 🙂

It sounds like you covered well, and for the most part I think serious theatre goers appreciate your ability to *cover* for mishaps like that. Shows professionalism 😉 .. (at least thats what people always told me lol… like that time my ribbons came completely off my pointe shoe and I had to finish the dance on one foot…lol) *hugs* and break a leg 🙂

Epps! One of those nights eh? I keep a piece of glow tape near my ASM station because it sedates the theatre gremlins(some silly thing I wrote years ago). RYN: I can’t wait till adjudication. The judge is so damn good..I know he will probably insult them without them even knowing it.

haha even though you had mishaps it sounds like your having fun. i’d love to see your show..however i have never in my life heard of ‘wentachee’ so i guess you must be touring pretty far away from me! good luck though, hope you are well xxxx
