Love and choice
Where does the idea come from that we can choose who we love? I’ve heard this a couple of times from people. They honestly think that you can go out there, find some guy or girl, and then choose to fall in love or choose not to. And they don’t even think of it strictly in gay-straight terms. It’s not that they only think you can choose which sex you fall in love with, they think you can choose the specific person you fall in love with. Where does this idea come from? How many people actually believe this? Why?
On a related note, what makes people think they are so intelligent or insightful that they can tell me I chose my sexuality?
i don’t agree that you can choose who you love. & definitely not who you don’t love. you fall in love with the person who completes you, & there’s no knowing who that is, until you meet them. xx

I know you don’t choose your sexuality or choose to fall in love, but I believe meeting certain people before you meet others can lead you to fall in love with them – when your real soulmate is still out there. Some people are lucky and find them ‘at first sight’, but I dunno I have to wonder – there’s billions of people out there. Just an opinion 🙂

I think people who use the term ‘choose love’ have never really fallen in love. They’ve most likely ‘settled’ for someone that dated them. When you fall in love, you don’t choose it, you meet someone and it’s the most amazing feeling in the world. It’s waking up in the morning and being so grateful that you have that person. It’s the fact that they make you smile till your face hurts.

Those people are either A) morons or B) grew up in a culture where you don’t marry for love, and the idea is that eventually you will “grow” to love each other. Arranged marriaged are like that. Not that I am against arranged marraiges, our friend had one recently and is very happy. In any case, you can’t choose who you love. Trust me, in my younger more naive days I tried exactly that (on a subconscious level). Furthermore, why would you have to choose? That takes the adventure out of it.
