scorpio vs libra… who will win?

Recently I read an announcement that concerns nothing less than the heavens above. See, the earth is slightly shifting on its axis – has been since the beginning. One astrologer says that it is only logical that this shift in axis over time means our view of the constellations, and the constellations positions in the night sky, also shifts. An example of this would be that what we consider the North Star (the star that seemingly always stayed in the the same place when the night sky rotated) today was different from the North Star of thousands of years ago.

Naturally, the shifting of constellations also means that our perception of the zodiac in the night sky also changes, so it’s possible that under this new shifting, most people’s zodiac sign will be different.

I was curious upon hearing this story where I would end up under the new zodiac realignment. Turns out that this proud scorpio is now a… libra?!

I have to admit I’m thoroughly disappointed by this. I’ve always felt like a scorpio and most of me matches what a being a scorpio, and its reputation, is. It seems weird that I could be something all my life, then suddenly someone says, hold on, what what you believed you were is now something different. Let’s face it. I enjoy being a scorpio. People seem to enjoy that I am a scorpio. So dang it, I’m scorpio to the bone. There’s no way I can be a libra. But what does being a libra mean?

So I read a little bit on libra.

Apparently, it is considered to be an air sign as opposed to scorpio, which is a water sign. Libras tend to be emotionally understanding while scorpios can be emotionally intense.

Libras “have elegance, charm and good taste, are naturally kind, very gentle, and lovers of beauty, harmony (both in music and social living) and the pleasures that these bring.

They have good critical faculty and are able to stand back and look impartially at matters which call for an impartial judgment to be made on them. But they do not tolerate argument from anyone who challenges their opinions, for once they have reached a conclusion, its truth seems to them self-evident; and among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. But their characters are on the whole balanced, diplomatic and even tempered.

Librans are sensitive to the needs of others and have the gift, sometimes to an almost psychic extent, of understanding the emotional needs of their companions and meeting them with their own innate optimism – they are the kind of people of whom it is said, “They always make you feel better for having been with them.” They are very social human beings. They loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity and detest conflict between people, so they do their best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around them, and their ideal for their own circle and for society as a whole is unity.

Their cast of mind is artistic rather than intellectual, though they are usually too moderate and well balanced to be avant garde in any artistic endeavor. They have good perception and observation and their critical ability, with which they are able to view their own efforts as well as those of others, gives their work integrity.” – (from http://www.astrology-online.com/libra.htm)

I have to admit that it’s a pretty picture for libras. So maybe I can deal with being a libra, but it won’t feel right. I would feel like an imposter. When someone asks me what my sign is, what would I say?

Just as I was reluctantly (and grudgingly) about to resign myself to all things libra, I read that there are actually 2 different zodiac systems in play. One is called the Tropical (western) and the other is called Sidereal (hindu based). The Tropical zodiac holds the astrological dates I am familiar with, while the Sidereal dates are the ones that shifted according to the astrologers. It’s the Sidereal one that’s causing me the dismay here.

They both agree that depending where the Sun was located in whichever sign is where your astrological zodiac sign is, on the day of your birth. The key phrase here is “on the day of your birth”. So no matter what, I was born under the sign of scorpio, thus considered a scorpio.

Although being a libra isn’t too bad. There are some parts that I think are smiliar to me, in the way that I don’t fit the description of a scorpio 100%. Then again I guess you can say that about everybody – they don’t fit their astrological sign 100%, but I suppose most are pretty close. Or is it because I only see the parts of being a scorpio that I like, and emphasize those? (Especially the part about the sexual prowess of scorpios, of course.) Maybe there is such a thing as being a hybrid sign. Maybe there’s a Design-a-Sign center somewhere. I guess the point is, I’m an indivdual and not a slave to the personality traits to any particular thing.

But you know what?

I’m a scorpio.

Damnit.

RYN:No I don’t have it and don’t know when I will get it, it’s sad, but it’s my life right now. Glad you liked the pic and I agree with the “worth a thousand words and thoughts” Yes I meant as a tool to help get ready, I don’t understand why they would need to. Watching it for fun or to see something to try and things along those lines I can understand…

but once you are with someone if they can’t turn you on then what’s the point? This is something I don’t think I will ever understand. 🙂

my primary source of dates has been match.com, a distant second would be plenty of fish, and trailing that all the rest; eHarmony, Chemistry.com, okCupid, and jDate (no I’m not jewish). probably 80 percent are from match.com
