All That the Summer Found

If I could place you there
The jackals wouldn’t be bold
Or chew on the bones today

All that the summer found
Were footprints lying in the sand
With a breeze from the south

The reeds tried to intervene,
Tried to catch it
Instead found sympathy from the insects

The gulls tried to ride it away from the shore
Only to rest upon stony perches huddled together
And await the cool spray of water

The sun was there of course,
Showing off to the beach goers below

They laughed because they knew
The earth would turn eventually

They walked nonchalantly,
Making love to nature
Down the shoreline leaving footprints
That all the summer found
