Over due 4th of July update + PICS!

Lesson: Appreciate what is infront of you.
The 4th of July excitement and festivities came and went and here I am on Monday morning at my desk with nothing to do but write and send letters to patients that have been discharged from the hospital. It is only 9:16 a.m. and I am already re-evaluating my life’s choices and wondering what I am doing here. Maybe I should get a teaching certificate…? I looked up a few programs this morning and it’s not a bad idea. Not that I really want to be a teacher, but I never wanted to be a secretary either so, why not? I need to find some way to better myself while I’m at this dead end job. I need to work towards a career, any career really, and get out of this job. I made 3 resumes last night to send out this morning. I’ve used more than half of my resume paper. That’s a lot of resumes.
Enough with that depressing talk. It was nice to go home this weekend. What better way to spend America’s birthday than in the Nation’s capital? Ahh yes, my hometown. Crowded, and crazy, and busy all the same.
Mark and his friend and I went to a Nationals baseball game which they surprisingly won. They’re just about the worst team in the league but they pulled through for the 4th. I actually didn’t pay a bit of attention to the game. I was more worried about my tan lines, thinking my shorts were too short, how I wished I’d worn capris instead, eating peanuts, what was on the big screen, drinking beer, watching the people around me buy/drink beer, the airplanes fly over head. You name it, I was distracted by it. There was one home run, which I missed of course, but it was still pretty cool.
Afterward Mark’s friend left and just the two of us metro-ed downtown. We walked into the Air and Space Museum since it was the first thing we saw coming out of the station. Still having a good little buzz from the game, we thought it was lame and couldn’t focus long enough to do any of the reading on the exhibits. It was too educational and not enough instant gratification for us. After about 15 minutes we made our way towards the door. Plus there was a million people there making it even more unbearable.
Then we came across the Smithsonian of Art and while I liked it, Mark could care less. After about another 10 minutes, we made our way towards the door. Our feet were already tired from walking and the buzz was wearing off. Time to eat, we decided.
It may be my "hometown" but I still don’t know the area that well so I had to call my dad for some suggestions on where to eat. He knows everything about downtown DC. We found a yummy place 6 or 7 block’s away and we were excited to sit and cool down. I had a delicious crab cake sandwich and Mark had some picnic special with fried chicken and a bunch of other stuff. And no more beer.
It was still early and we had nothing to do so we walked around the national mall and killed time until the fireworks show started. I thought they were exceptionally good this year and I’ve spent many 4th of July’s there. The grand finale was better than ever!
Afterward the crowds over took the streets and people were just walking in traffic so no cars could move. I’d never seen anything like it in my life. I was right there with the crowd walking in between cars that were forced to stop on the street. Police came out and finally regained control. It was wild while it lasted though.
Metro-ing home wasn’t as terrible as last year. We squeezed on the first train that came and made it home in no time. My feet were SO tired and I was very sweaty and dirty. I showered and passed out with in 2 minutes of my head hitting the pillow. I couldn’t believe I was out like a light.
A fun day was had by all.
Right when we got to the game. Mark is being silly with the free American flags they were giving out lol. And check out our matching 4th of July shirts! Mark’s so good to me, what a good sport!
It was SO hot outside, we were cooking but still decided to sit in the sun lol.
After this pic Mark was like "Why didn’t you tell me to roll my sleeve down" lol
Mark and I outside the Smithsonian. I
;was worried my shorts were too short all day, but looking at this pic they do look short, but not TOO terrible I think.
Waiting for the big show to start. We were so tired by this time.
Yah! We had a great view! I think they were better than ever this year!
Aww I think it would be cool to spend the 4th in Washington D.C.!!! You are gorgeous! I love the matching shirts! And I don’t think your shorts were too short at all! Hope you have a great weekend!
Warning Comment
jobs are an interesting subject because often things come up that you never pictured yourself doing. I never thought I’d be a firefighter, that’s for sure.
