The Birth Story
This past week has been a blur and I needed the time to process it all. And it is still not complete; only jumbled thoughts. and it is now 12am just five and a half hours until Maddie is a week old.
I had been up since 4:30 on Tuesday the 27th. It was jen’s due date. I went to work at NoCo and talked with Jen through out the day. She’s had some contractions but no sign of them getting closer than ten minutes apart. Jen and I job share my 2nd job. So since there were no signs of labor, Jen decided to work my shift for me. So she went the 20 miles to work.
I was home feeling guilty that i had let her go. She just got tired of sitting at home playing the waiting game. I was on facebook chatting with my mom and my sister when 45 minutes into my wife’s shift, she calls me that her water broke and she was driving to the hospital. I told her I’d pick her up but she insisted she was fine. No contractions yet so she wasn’t worried.
So I closed out of the web browser, cutting off my mom and sister’s conversations. They later told me they thought it odd that I’d just leave like that,
in the mean time, Jen needed me to get the prepacked suitcase and a few other last minute items. I was freaking out. I had to rush. Jen was great at talking to me calmly and walking me through getting the stuff together and loading the car. So i called labor and delivery to let them know we were coming. I was hoping to get there before Jen did, but due to the onset of rush hour traffic, I had to take the back way.
Jen was in the parking lot waiting for me to get there. She sat in her car calling family to let them know what was going on. I called my dad to let him know we were going to the hospital. In the background I heard my sister yell "YEAH!"
Jen wanted me to check in with her. By the time I got there, contractions were four minutes apart. They didn’t even start until Jen pulled into the parking lot at the hospital.
Well, it’s 12:30 so I’m gonna stop here for now and continue later. I need some sleep so I can give Jen a hand later on during the night.
