Remembered it *edit*
I remembered what I was going to write about yesterday.
In talking with the apartment manager about the caretaking job, jen and I were instructed not to be oversociable with other residents. Not to be too chatty especially about apartment business. An example she gave us was not to say that there is a dead bird in the dungeon. The dead bird happened to be a pet. It some how managed to fly into the cavernous underbelly of the building. The dungeon is only the service area located beneath the whole lenght and width of the building. It’s where the boiler, mechanical rooms are and they used to have lockers for residents to keep some storage.
As soon as Jen and I heard that it was a pet bird, We realized we had seen a sign about the pet bird.
Sign on the door to an apartment said that the family is missing their pet bird. I can’t remember if it was a parakeet or a cockatiel. Poor family. I think they do have kids. At least I heard young voices when I have walked passed that unit. I know what it’s like to lose a pet.
Growing up, my family have had a total of 4 dogs, 7 cats, and 5 gerbils (not all at once- some of the cats when I was younger overlapped a bit). Dogs 1-3 were given away, dog 2 was later put down. Dog 4 died. cat one ran away. Cats two and three were siblings, 3 ran away, cat 2 was given away when we moved, later put down. Cat 4 was just a kitten born of cat two and was run over. Cat five was to replace cat 4 and the pet shop felt sorry about the incident and gave us the cat for free. Cat 6 was given away when we moved and gave gerbil one a heart attack. Cat 7 is still purring. Gerbils 3-5 all died.
Just so you know, I didn’t put the times we had each pet in chronological order. Just in chronological order for each type of pet.
But yeah, i know how hard it is to lose a pet.
And for this family, I think the apartment manager is not going to say a thing. Just let the family assume it flew away. I guess that is an ok thing. This way there can be hope that the bird found a new home.
**Edit** Gerbil two died as well. Not as some cat’s meal.

Wow–that seems rather heartless of the apartment manager. I would rather KNOW than be left to WONDER.
