Fortress

Strong walls can allow a handful to hold out against hundreds,

Even to win.

A fortress with walls tall enough,

Strong enough can break all enemies on its walls.

So mine have held over the years,

Held out everyone.

Walls which none could climb,

No one could see past.

I could open the doors,

But only into certain parts.

Like a maze,

I could lead them where I wanted.

Letting them know what I wished.

I thought I had sealed up the hole,

Patched up the cracks.

Walked right in.

Right past the walls and they fell down.

—-

Started to rebuild,

But realized now that I can’t hide.

Should not hide.

I will not this time.

I’ll step out into the open,

Amidst open plains,

With no cover in sight.

A sure fool’s plan,

But then I am the fool.

Foolish enough to dream.

I am ready.

I probably could have written at least the first part a good few weeks ago, but it wasn’t until recently that my inspiration really picked up again.
