Monsters and Heroes

So, I finally finished the song I was working on.  Well, “finished.”  Nothing’s ever finished, not really.  I ended up calling it “Monsters and Heroes.”  The words still need some work, and I’m probably going to fiddle around with the sound some more, but I wanted to feel like I’d done something if only momentarily.

Monsters and Heroes

There is nothing inside of me.
There was something inside of me,
a monster only I could see
if it caught me off guard.
And it wasn’t so hard to be
what he said I was meant to be.
‘Cause it all came so naturally,
that I just let him run.

So I carried this truth ‘til the end of the day,
but although you were waiting, I just couldn’t stay.
Then the monster came back and he swept me away,
to the darkness, alone, where he lay.

And I took to the streets alone,
and I wandered so far from home,
further than I had ever known.
Oh, I led him away.
To a place where you wouldn’t see
what I would let him do to me.
I surrendered so willingly
to this beast in my mind.

So I carried this truth ‘til the end of the day,
but although you were waiting, I just couldn’t stay.
Then the monster came back and he swept me away,
<span style="font-family:"Arial Black",&q

And I never had thought that I
could ever get out free, alive.
I had waited so long to die,
by this monster’s cruel hands.
But with your sword and shield you came
and you beat the monster away,
a debt that I could not repay,
a debt you then erased.

So I carried this truth ‘til the end of the day,
and you’ve waited for this long, so I knew I could say
all the words that for so long had been locked away.
In that darkness, alone, they will stay.
