Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison.
Learning about the origins of life in Biology class, one thing always perplexed me. What was life? Was it a chemical reaction or the work of God? The theory of evolution was explained fairly well, certainly, but not once has any book mentioned where life comes from.
I read in the news today that a group of scientists have made it their goal to discover the secret of life. They intend to create a life form from non-living substances. And as cool as it would be to mix 2 parts HCl with one part NaOH and get life, I can just see that the Christian conservatives are going to bring up questions of morality and fuck the entire process up.
I mean, if they’re against cloning, this seems way out of the ballpark.
And yet, it would be fascinating to discover when all the chemical reactions and proteins and enzymes and electrical pulses turn into life. In fact, if humans could discover the origins of life, the possibilities are enormous. If humans discovered the origins of life, it is entirely possible that they could conquer death. Someday, immortality may be a possibilty.
