Story Preservation

I was doing some searches on scrapbooking, and came across story preservation, which I now want to explore as an idea… though I have to wonder, where do I begin?  I can barely remember a time I didn’t write.  I asked for a diary at the age of 10.  TEN!  I wrote in it about 3 times, and then forgot about it.  LOL.  In the 8th grade, I had to keep a diary, and I did, and that has been a source of some interesting reading, and reflecting back on myself.  I actually burned a bunch of diaries from my early 20s, as they were just a LONG series of constant complaining and bemoaning my situation in life, and just a huge example of the rut I was in at that time.  So yea, burned those.  A LOT of writing of mine went up in flames that day…but I did move forward.  It was good not to go back and revisit that.

So, I guess the question for me is, what IS my story?  And how do I tell it?  I have this "Book of Me" going, and I want to make it something my kids can keep, and cherish, and maybe show THEIR kids, so they will have an idea of what their mother/grandma was like…when she was a kid, a teenager, a young adult, and finally an adult… not an easy task.  ESPECIALLY when one is as… um, wordy as I am, lol.  I mean, I could fill a pretty big volume with my stories.  And lastly… would I?  Would I actually do it?  The nice thing about my diary here, is that I can go back and take some of the stories to print out.  "A day in the life of…" sort of thing, I suppose you could call it.  I don’t know… I’ll really have to THINK about how I want to do this one.  And the nice thing is, I can start writing without really having a "plan."  I can organize it on the computer, or whatever, and then print it and put it in the book, with or without photos.

I think I’ll ask the girls what their favorite stories are, and start there.
