Little bit of misery
I have a sore throat and I’m sneezing… obviously I have a cold. Right now I need a nap, but I’m trying to get some laundry done before the housekeeper comes… she’ll put it away for me, but there’s too much to expect her to do it all. Hopefully I can get it folded, but I may need to get some rest/sleep. I did the whites, since she always mixes those in with the rest of the laundry, they’ve been very dingy looking lately, so i wanted to get them properly bleached. Plus I wanted to do my bedding, and she can make the bed up…it’s a bit beyond me. Well, it doesn’t HAVE to be, but lately it has been. I just leave what I really hate doing for her. Which means she gets to fold the socks. She can only come over for a couple of hours tonight, but it’ll look so much better, and Jerry won’t be unhappy… though he really SHOULDN’T be… I went into the office today to help him out. Which puts him a little farther ahead than he would be if he’d had to do it himself. I didn’t mind doing it at all, except for occassionally NOT knowing what I was doing.
I’m going to go to the scrapbook store tonight. They did a bit of a remodel…home improvements they call them, and the store will be open tonight to show it off. I haven’t stepped foot in this store in three months because of how badly they’ve treated me and my children, but I would like to see what they’ve done. Plus I’ve got a friend who’s going, and I’d like to see her. So I will go.
I need to get a swap done before we leave, and I’m REALLY pushing to the end… which is not good. I really need to get motivated, and I haven’t been motivated at all.
I’m listening, or half listening, to Sydni read to me… it tends to be kind of painful, because she’s still learning to read, and she tends to be toneless, run her sentences together, and has to sound almost everything out. If you have a 6 year old, you know what I’m talking about…went through the same thing with Bec, and Syd is actually a BIT of a better reader than Bec was. Bec could read a word, and two sentences later come to the SAME word, and not know what it was… that drove me nuts. I hope Shabree is a better reader. I’ve read that reading doesn’t really "come" to a child til they’re in 4th grade anyway, so a lot of this when they’re younger can just cause frustration and anxiety. But this IS the society we live in, isn’t it? I was reading, didn’t get to finish it unfortunately, that a third of all high school students are dropping out of high school. That is very unfortunate. Bush is NOT doing a very good job on the education front, I do not believe. I mean, our kids are pushed SO hard they have LITTLE time to just be kids, and high schoolers have so much homework, it may as well be a second job in the evenings. What is UP with that? We’re not promoting an environment that actually encourages kids to think… it’s almost all about tests, and it’s ridiculous. Plus, the kids who are at a disadvantage are usually even at more of a disadvantage because of the way things are structured now… I just do NOT agree with it.
Okay, OFF the soapbox, yes?
Man, it’s already almost 5 p.m. The afternoon, the WHOLE day, has gone by SO fast. The dryer just went off.. guess I’ll go fold some laundry.
Yep, I know all about 6 yr olds. Been there 3 times and on my 4th and final 6 yr old. Altho Noah can read better than his teenage brothers and sisters. He’s been reading since he was 4 and is now in an accelerated reader program. Having 3 teenage siblings and a teacher mom has its benefits. Actually, kids are not pushed very hard in schools these days….you can thank No Child Left Behind…I’ve

been teaching special ed kids for 5 years…3 years before that was 8th gr social studies. My kindergartner has had more home work this year alone than my 12th grader has had the last 2 years…that also goes for the 8th and 11th graders. They NEVER have homework, and when they do..its so little they can get it done IN class before they even get home. Kids are not being challenged any longer.

My 6th grader often has 2 hours of homework every night after school. The kids are doing things in elementry that I didn’t do until I was in junior high and highschool. I agree, they are being pushed TOO hard. They grow up fast enough for goodness sakes.
