Well, school did not go as well as I’d hoped today. Becca doesn’t want to start, because much of her work is online. I don’t BLAME her, but we’re trying to get ahead! She could at least crack open some books and see what she MIGHT do offline. She, of course, wanted to start with Art. Art is like a once, maybe twice a week thing… and she wants to start with that. Couldn’t even do that, because some of it was online. LOL… figures, eh?
Syd worked on math and a little bit of spelling. Tomorrow we start working on language arts. Shabree seems ready to start cursive, yay! I’m going to start her on some worksheets, instead of the sentences they give. We’ll have to do kind of a jump start at that, because we’ve only got a couple of weeks, really, to work on these worksheets, but I’m hopeful they’ll give her more of a "base" to begin with, instead of just starting her off copying sentences. I guess we’ll see what happens there.
She seems to have a TON of spelling words! There are spelling words in her Wordly Wise book, in her language arts book, and then she has reading books they are taking spelling words from as well… it’s something to the effect of 30? spelling words a week? Since I don’t have any idea what the week to week curriculum actually entails, I may be wrong, but there seem to be a LOT of spelling words. But, we will work on them all the same. She has a lot of reading to do. I hope she learns to like reading. I told Becca to start reading the books the school sent, she can head start on that, at least. She didn’t want to do that either. Stinker. I guess she doesn’t REALLY want to work harder to get up to 8th grade. Sigh.
That is a lot of spelling words. My kids get a max of 10 a week… that’s 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade, and my neighbor’s girl gets the same in 2nd grade.

I always hated spelling words in school period. I think maybe we got around 15-20 words.

Had to pop in and say hi while I have computer access! I hope the girls learn to love school! For me, learning to read was the MOST awesome thing! I love to read still to this day and like you, I enjoy writing. Perhaps she will look at “writing” as art.
