You knock me off my feet
Ashley decided a few minutes ago that was she TIRED and wanted a nap. It’s a lot earlier than her usual nap time, so early that Jake was still home. I had to go to pee real quick so Jake laid on the bed with her and sang her the Good Eats theme music, and by the time I was back, she was fast asleep. So awesome. May only last a few minutes but then a bit of boob will put her right back to sleep. Either way, I have time to write so I’m Happy! (yes, the h needs to be capitalised)
When did I write… Friday? Yikes. Yikes and whoops.
I got my whiteboard on Saturday. We haven’t used it all that much but it is nice to have. Jake knows what meal options there are for the week because they are written on the wall rather than hiding in a notebook somewhere. When we were at Staples there was a weird fair/garage sale type thing going on. I thought it was just a bunch of old ladies selling stuff but then when we got out of the car there was WARBLING from a singer hidden somewhere behind the shrubbery (the whole thing was hidden from the parking lot by shrubbery, not just the lady singer). I can’t stand singers that try and show off their range by making a bunch of noise, it really bugs me. So that was a lot of fun.
We learned that putting Ashley on the dining table is lots of fun for her. I sat her next to me and she scooted herself into the center where she could reach EVERYTHING, but most importantly the tissues. She’s wonderful at obeying "no" so she doesn’t end up eating tissues, just ripping them up. Which, I totally get, sometimes I rip tissues up with her so she can play in the tissue-streamers. It’s fun! There’s a fair few non-baby-safe things on the table, but she’s on a table, I’d have to be right there watching anyway so it doesn’t matter. Lots of stuff for her to throw around and make a mess with, so she has a great time. Each time we’ve been the one to end it, she could probably play forever.
Go baby, sleeping through the midday siren test! Woo! (although, when Mum was here, so Ash was a month old, we were next to the siren when it went off and Ash didn’t care)
On Sunday, we had lunch with Jake’s Dad (Gale) as well as Nick and Stacy (brother and his wife). Nancy was there too. We went to Chili’s, the food was pretty good, I had a chicken club quesadilla. Mmm. It was all chickeny and guacamoley and good. I chose it partially because I knew it was good and partially because Ash refused to sit in her highchair. She wasn’t having a great time, she was a touch on the grumpy side even after I cleaned her up and changed her pooped-on clothes. I felt kinda left out, didn’t even get to hear the conversations that were happening (Jake said it was all boring stuff, but he gets to hear adults talk every day! I hear ‘bababa’ ‘mamammamaa’ or Jake talking to Ashley. Or my own voice. That’s about it. Anything would be interesting to listen to!). Once everyone ate, Ashley got passed around, but she wasn’t super excited by that. Then she wanted to leave, so we did. She headbutted me twice on the way to the car, and then when I was strapping her into the carseat, she tried to lick the chest-clasp. Her tiny little tongue got pinched (but not stuck thankfully) and I felt so terrible!! I didn’t see what she was doing until after it happened, I was still recovering from the headbutts so my thoughts were a little slow. Then I couldn’t decide if I should nurse her there (hot car or freezing cold windy outside) or wait until we got home. Once we were home, she refused naps all afternoon. She finally slept when Jake took her for a walk in the stroller.
Not too much has been happening during the week, at least that I can remember. I think Monday and Tuesday was spent with me setting up lots of little play spots throughout the apartment and organising something nearby, and then when she got sick of that play area we moved to another. It did result in lots of things being half-sorted by the end of the day, but whatever. It was something, and it really helped with my delayed nesting/spring cleaning urge. (Maybe it is because it is spring now where I grew up?)
Yesterday, oh man. I was looking forward to Wednesday ALL WEEK. Best day ever. Matt and Lisa came over to get their ‘ashley fix’ which meant I got my ‘no ashley fix’. They went to lunch downstairs and then went for a 90 minute walk. So I was free for at least 2 hours. I cleaned the whole apartment, it feels sparkly to me now. I don’t know if anyone else can tell but I can and that’s what’s important. I got to clean, groove to music, not have to worry about taking care of anyone, only had to do what I wanted to do… it was great. I wish they lived closer so that could be an almost weekly thing.
In case you were wondering, Ashley slept for 30 minutes before needing food. Then she ate and slept for another hour. I couldn’t escape during that time (she was holding onto my clothes while sleeping, if I tried to roll away she grabbed tighter and rolled towards me) but who cares. She had a good nap. Yay! And now we’re going to go to the post office because apparently my copy of Bad 25 is there even though it only shipped yesterday. Score! (I’m not meant to know anything about it because it is a birthday present, but I ordered it and told Jake it was a birthday present. Besides, it’s my bithday in 6 weeks, it’ll just be an early present. Woo!) Might take Ash for a nice walk first, get some fresh air. Aah, air.
OH! BEfore I forget. This morning Ashley woke up with bed-hair! So cute. It’s actually still poking up, it makes me giggle every time I see it.

Huzzah for getting some “No Ashley time”! It’s such an important thing to have time to yourself. I still cop a bit of crap when I say “I need some time away from Alleira”, but it’s always from people who aren’t parents, or who have never done the sole parent thing lol

I wish we lived closer too so we could also have Ashley time. I agree with EL about the ridiculously cute hoodie. And is Ashley laughing so much in that photo coz she is giving us the finger? *giant hugs*
