Wiggly acrobatic smoosh

I did a Day In The Life yesterday. That entry won’t happen until the weekend, but I wanted to write and get the other events of the week documented before theyt are too far in the past.

On Tuesday, Jake and I went out on our first date since Ashley. Possibly our first date since the start of the year, I can’t remember how far along I was when I decided I didn’t want to go too far from home unless I was with someone who could drive (Jake can’t drive, he has weird double vision. You can tell when he’s focusing on something, his head gets all tilty, it’s so cute).

So yes. We went on a date! Tuesday was Jake’s birthday. In the morning I was woken at 5:30, but Jake slept right through that feeding/burping/pumping time. He didn’t get up until 7:30 when Ashley woke next. She’s such a good girl, I had told her to sleep all night so her Daddy could and she did it! We gave him his presents (Good Eats #3 from me, Lucky Charms cereal from Ashley) and he had a bowl of cereal with me which rarely happens. At 10:45 we went downstairs to have lunch with Jake as he was starting his break then, so because he and I also went out to dinner we got to eat every meal together! It was pretty awesome. At the restaurant Ashley was laughing up a storm. The place was empty, so everyone could hear the laughs and it seemed to make everyone’s work time better because how could baby laughs not make you super smiley-happy?

Lisa and Matt showed up at different times in the afternoon. They were our babysitting team. When Jake got off work at about 4, he zoomed through a shower and we ran out the door because the movie was at 5 and it takes half an hour to get there. I knew Ashley was going to be fine because she was in competant, loving hands; but I wasn’t sure how we’d do.

We were going to get a free ticket or two thanks to Nick (Jake’s brother), he works at the mall and as such gets a free movie ticket every day if he wants it. Unfortunately as we drove in we passed an accident scene and one of the 2 mall security working there was Nick, so we had to pay (well, use our gift card from christmas).

We saw The Avengers. It was much better than I was expecting, so that was nice. Quite amusing, especially when the Hulk punched Thor when they were done working as a team at one point. Heh. After the movie we went to IHOP where there was 2 other people and that’s it! We still had to sit around waiting for ages for our check so the tip was tiny. I had a chicken breast in a burger type situation, it was okay but left me feeling a bit iffy. Typical chain-restaurant digestive experience for me.

I was dying by the time we got home, so full of milk it hurt. So I couldn’t even hug my baby until I had pumped which made me a touch sad.

On Wednesday, Ashley had a doctor’s appointment.  (wow, I just turned around and she had hit one of her playmat rattles up over the bar it hangs from. Go baby!) Lisa had stayed the night so she could come too. We ate with Jake again (mmm raspberry danish) and then headed off to a 11:15am appointment. I didn’t look at the time when the Dr finally saw us, but I swear it was at least half an hour. Why even bother making an appointment if you can’t stick to it? Ugh. We had to go get Ashley’s head measured so there could be a proper curve on the recording sheet. She’s growing normally, just on the very top line of normal, so I guess the 100th percentile? She’s in the 90th percentile for weight, 14lb 12oz. Which I think means by Sunday when she is 15 weeks old she will be 15lb.

While we were waiting for the Dr to show up, we were playing peek a boo. I was holding Ashley, she was standing on the table. Lisa was behind me and would POP out every so often. Jake was sitting to our side and Ash was watching him and then BAM there’s grandma! She thought it was the funniest thing, so we were all laughing to the point of our cheeks aching.

Nothing super interesting happened on Thursday, except that I took a million photos and videos. I won’t post them all, but…

What was so funny that Ashley was laughing up a storm? I’m looking forward to your day in the life.

About the doctor, I used to think that, too. But then I figured that I’d want the doctor to spend a little longer with me when I needed it, so I can’t begrudge the other patients that same thing. Though half an hour is pretty ridiculous. Happy birthday to Jake! And yay for date night! Duckie and I haven’t had one yet, but I’m not ready to leave Lily with not-one-of-us just yet.

RYN: An apology would have been nice. At my OB, I sometimes had to wait 20 or so minutes and they kept it SO HOT in there that I thought I’d pass out from heat stroke.

Yay for a great day. Nothing brightens any room than a laughing baby 🙂

I keep meaning to ask and then forgetting: for the oxyclean/dishsoap method of poop removal, what is the ratio of dish soap to oxyclean? Do you add water to dilute?
