Wet omelette baby

Sleepy baby is taking her morning nap in my arms. Yesterday she stayed awake all morning – by midday she was crying whenever I wasn’t holding her and walking, she was hungry but wouldn’t eat, just cried with a mouthful of nipple. Eventually she slept, and when she woke and I asked if she would like a bath. Her response? The biggest, messiest poop I have ever seen. It filled every possible crevice in the diaper region. I love giving her a bath, she splashes and looks so happy the whole time, plus the weather is warm enough now that I don’t have to zoom through the drying stage to keep her from getting too cold, so it is a great time for both of us.

The last couple nights I’ve been sleeping deeply but waking up exhausted. I hate it, I feel like an ass when Ashley wakes up and is alert but not yet hungry and I don’t have the energy to raise my arm let alone play with her. It’s a good thing she’s got such a lovely daddy. The last 2 mornings I’ve had an iced coffee and the amazing thing is: they work! Caffeine has never really done anything for me before. Maybe I’ve never been exhausted enough, maybe it’s another post-pregnancy change, and a useful one at that. I like pretty much all the changes that have happened to me since Ashley was created. My massive chest amuses me, my tiger-striped belly is just awesome (although they are no longer purple which made them doubly awesome) and of course I love my Ashley. The only thing I don’t like is my messed up crotch, but there has to be a negative somewhere or else everything else just isn’t as good!

Too many photos with man-nipples lately. The weather is too humid for Jake to have a shirt, but he prefers Ash to spit up directly on him rather than on his clothes. Crazy man.

Ashley worries me a bit sometimes. She tends to tilt her head to the right, when sitting up or laying down. When she’s laying down it’s more pronounced but I think it is just because it is the laziest way to get lots of her left hand in her mouth. I keep straightening her up, I don’t want my sweetie all bent out of shape.

Did I mention that we weighed her last week and she is double her birth weight? We’ll get her officially weighed at her 3 month appointment next week (we have to go in and get her head measured, her Dr didn’t like that she kept getting a different result to what the nurse had gotten last month, so she wants us to come in and she will measure her so there is an accurate rate of growth measured.) but who told my baby she could be 2ft (60cm) tall and 14lb (6.4kg)!

On Tuesday I left Ashley at home with her Grandma Lisa for 3 hours while I went to the laundromat. It was kind of like a practice run for this coming Tuesday when Jake and I are going out in the evening. It’s a good thing too, I came home and she was hungry because she wouldn’t eat from her bottle (it was only just approaching feeding time anyway, it’s not like she had been starving) and they had left the o-ring out of the bottle so it had leaked all over poor baby’s clothes. But now everyone knows, so that is good. I’m a little nervous about leaving Ash in the evening, her feeding is unpredictable at that time and because she only eats from boobs I don’t know how MUCH she eats at each meal. There’s enough milk in the freezer for me to go away for almost a week, but she doesn’t like refridgerated milk (even after it being warmed) so who knows how she’ll feel about milk that has been previously frozen? I do know she’ll be well taken care of and entertained by her grandma and grandpa but I wouldn’t be a mother if I didn’t worry a bit.

I can’t remember if I had anything else to write about. My brain flies away a lot these days.
