Too much fun to bother documenting…

… but I have to, because I will kick myself if I don’t.
Umm… so I last wrote last Friday, by the looks of my previous entry (would much rather it have the date than have "7 days ago" but I think that is just what I’m used to. Will add a date to this up top!)
We still have a Natey. He will be leaving on Tuesday, so his visit is coming to a close, unfortunately. His first week here went by beautifully slowly, but this week has ZOOMED. Possibly because we are doing thanksgiving tomorrow (butt-ass early so Natey can experience) so I have had PLANS every day. Thankfully Stop & Shop put out perfectly sized, fresh turkeys on Tuesday, so we got that big stressful thing purchased early. It freaks me out every year, we do thanksgiving so early that it is hard to find a turkey (and even harder because I refuse to buy the ones with the high percentage of briny liquid added already, some I found had up to 18% added! The one we got had 3%, although I would prefer 0% that is very VERY difficult to find) so I get quite stressed about it. Always nice to remove stress.
Ashley is huge. She walks around the grocery store rather than sitting in the cart. Her choice, of course. She walks on the sidewalk or around places and refuses to hold my hand. We went to the corn maze last Sunday which was FREAKIN AWESOME and Ashley walked the entire way, which was more than an hour. She gave up in the last minute or so. Wow. She talks constantly and strings words together so awesomely, like "Uncle Natey’s cell phone" or what she said after she fell this afternoon… "Watch Elmo with Mummy. Ashley all better."
Ok, corn maze. Or maize maze. Amazing maize maze. It was pretty awesome. We went Sunday afternoon with Barb, Kerry, Beth and Chloe who all work downstairs with Jake. So 7 adults and 1 Ashley. The place is about 45 minutes away, so everyone met up here which is always easy for us, we just have to go outside. Russ (owner of the downstairs restaurant) paid for our corn maze tickets which was an unexpected niceness. Such a nice guy. The maze’s pattern was based on the statue of liberty, so there were lots of trivia questions throughout the maze asking things about the statue. Beth googled the answers while we all tried to guess from the list of possible answers we had been given at the entrance. I don’t know what the point of answering all that was, but it was fun. Natey and I walked at the front of the group. Natey was having fun running ahead of us all a bit, scouting which turns to take and which were dead ends. I started at the back but ended up at the front because that way Ashley followed me, plus I got to hang out with Natey. Ashley walked right behind us and the rest of the group behind her, so she was protected and prevented from running off (although she did try once or twice, but she came right back after we used authoritative voice at her).
After the long long maze, we got some group shots taken at the exit. And then we headed over to the store and got delightful apple cider donuts, some blackcurrant juice (that actually sucks, because it is only 22% juice and it just tastes so watered down. I knew it wasn’t pure juice before I read it), and Natey got some marshmallow fudge. OOh and I got a carrot cake cupcake, which ruled, although was huge.
We left the place at about 6:30, I think. Dinner is usually 5, and I hadn’t had lunch so I was starting to go a bit loopy (breakfast had been at about 9:30). Ashley had had lunch but her dinner was so delayed and she walked SO LONG and she hadn’t had a nap (!!!) so when we got in the car we expected her to sleep. She did not. She ate every last morsel of food I had packed for her (normal dinner plus her normal breakfast-snack mix) and wanted more. She didn’t sleep until she got to bed at 8. She’s too young to not be napping often… I hope. That was the 3rd time she has skipped nap in the past month and a bit…
So, tomorrow. Our whiteboard is covered in stuff to do in the morning. Once all that is done then I can put up the info about the turkey and such. Natey is such a helpful dude. He helped me make the stuffing loaves today, and helped with peeling/slicing potatoes so they are ready to cook/mash tomorrow (I slice them with the food processor then put them in a container covered in water. They cook up so fast because they are so thin pieces. It is awesome). Right after we have breakfast downstairs tomorrow, I have to come up and bake a sweet potato pie and the stuffing loaves (that way they can just be reheated after the turkey is out of the oven). I’m hoping the boys will willingly assist without me asking them to. I know I can ask, but it is always nicer if things just happen because they read the to do list and do stuff. We’ll see. Dinner is at 5, Lisa is showing up around 12. I don’t know when the others will come. Probably about 4, I’m guessing.
I have to remember to peel the apples for the apple sauce. And to get the butter out so it can soften… and so many other things. I’m not going to bore you with all those things.
I would finish this with pictures, but I can’t be bothered working out how to post pictures/videos. One day.
Amazing maize maze sounds like fun 🙂 I’ve gotten a bit slack about my weekly updates lately, but I will get back to them definitely once crazy uni essay time is over (two weeks from now) or maybe before then as procrastination. You should check your postbox later this week/early next week. I’m sure you will anyway, but just saying *nods*
