Tiny Toughie

(I wrote twice the other day, and the wrong entry showed up as the most recent. THIS is the one I wanted to be more visible.)

Yesterday, Jake got a strangely (for a Wednesday) long lunch break, so I took advantage and put Ashley’s new car seat in the car. Now she doesn’t have the same seat she was brought home in, and she actually FITS with room to grow. Woo! It was fun being away from the baby, working on something important. The only non-fun part was when I tried to get out to check the seat was properly reclined and discovered the door was child-locked, so I had to move the car seat so I could climb into the front seat and get out. For a brief second I thought the door handle didn’t work. All manner of random things don’t work in my car so I wouldn’t be surprised, but that would suck. I finished getting the seat in and was just going over the final checklist to make sure I did it right when my phone’s alarm went off letting me know Jake’s break ended in 5 minutes.

Today Jake also had a long break, but I was lazy so I walked to the post office and then sat around and read the magazine we got in the mail. Ashley had a present from her Aunty Ellen – an awesome hoodie. I love hoodies, this one could fit now but it is a size 2 so she will be able to grow with it for a while. Plus, it is awesome and pretty and has ears.

The picture with the ears showing hasn’t uploaded properly yet.

I was jealous of Ashley’s card. I don’t know if Ellen has ever given me a card, normally she just writes on pieces of paper. I think sometimes she would write on the wrapping paper itself.

This afternoon, Ashley and I went to Quest because Ash had to get some blood taken. Standard lead level test, and double checking on her heamoglobin. When we got there, the phlebotomist was the only person working and she told me we’d have to come back another time because babies need AT LEAST 3 people holding them down in order to get the blood out. I said she’d be fine, so she said we could try, and that she’d know just by putting on the tourniquet if this would be doable or not.

Guess what? Ash rocked it. She cried the entire time, of course, but she was still. Like I knew she would be. Poor little girl. She was exhausted because her morning nap had been interrupted by Russ and Mike coming up to fix the leaking shower (can’t even say dripping, it was slowly pouring) right at nap time. WHY do they always have to come at nap time? Buttheads. They aren’t quiet about it either. So she got no sleep in the morning, and didn’t get to have a nice nap until 2:30. Poor girl. I’m surprised she is still awake now, she’s just sitting on the floor ripping up magazines. Although she does keep crying over tiny things, or nothing, so I think she is running on air at this point.

Moosh style! A couple days ago she was wearing my long sleeve shirt as a cape, and today she had a sock as a belt.

Party this weekend! Dean (post office dude) semi-argued with me today because he just DID NOT BELIEVE that Ashley was one. He thought she was 6 months or something. He hasn’t seen her in a while so maybe that’s why. But yeah, Ashley’s first birthday party with family is this weekend. I have the cake planned out. I have sweet snackies planned out. I HAVE NO IDEA OF ANYTHING SAVOURY TO FEED PEOPLE. Seriously, nothing. Whenever I try and think of anything all my brain comes up with is party pies and that’s just not available and that is sad. I don’t know if people are coming for dinner or just snacks and then leaving at dinner time. It is incredibly poorly planned.
There’s a nude baby running around! Better make sure she doesn’t pee in some random place.

I love her fashion sense. So glad she was good for the blood draw who wants to go threw that again. So glad the seat is working now.

hmm… so if it is just snacky apps your looking for how about taco dip and corn chips, seafood salad and crackers, cheese, pepperoni and crackers, store bought meatballs in a crock pot, shrimp cocktail? (Just thinking about all the stuff my mom serves at holiday parties)

Eee! I’m so glad it fits/is cute 😀 I actually bought that card at the same time as I got the one with the elephants that I sent as birth-congratulations and it’s been lurking in my room ever since. I will be sure to send you a birthday card this year so you don’t have to be jealous. Also, sock belt is cool. Tasty savoury thing could be… potato wedges?

hummus and veggies/bread to dip in it? I like this one: http://www.food.com/recipe/super-healthy-hummus-90086

What a good little girl!! And what a cutey in the pink hoodie. I suspect her mum had something to do with the cape and the belt.

Cutie!! I’m glad she did so well with the blood draw. Those things are always harder on us parents than on the kids. 🙁 There are some good savory snack ideas in the notes – your readers have good taste! Are you on Pinterest? Tons of good ideas there!
