Shirt, jacket, whatever this is…

I don’t know why, but there was so much crummy music being played at the stores today. So even though I have applied liberal doses of MJ in the car and at home, I still have stuff I don’t want stuck in my head. My other annoyance right now is this computer chair. It is fabric, Jake has been sitting here for 90 minutes, and it is warm in here, so this seat is moist and sticky. So disgusting.

I know I have things to write about… must look at my last entry to remember what I wrote.

Oh yeah, I ordered that rug from Ikea that I wanted. I worked out that if I drove there and used only a quarter tank of gas (which I think is optimistic) it would still be $1 cheaper to order the thing online. So that’s what I did. It has already shipped and is predicted to get here Friday. Hopefully it doesn’t come on Wednesday when I’m out in the morning. I put the apartment as the shipping address even though we get everything to the PO Box. If I get things here they deliver them downstairs but Jake is there so that’s ok. Hopefully if they try to deliver this the package will be light enough for Jake to get up here easy, or the delivery dude will bring it up.

We bought proper picture hooks today so I traded the nail holding our calendar for that. BUT the damn thing doesn’t have something on the end to hold the pages on so they keep falling off so it keeps flipping back to February. Stupid thing. I’ll fix it again in the morning but man that is annoying. We got the picture hooks so I could hang up our clock. Ever since we got rid of cable we haven’t had an easily viewable time machine in the main room of the apartment, but now we have a cute analog clock on the wall. I can even see it from bed! I love it. Makes the place seem more homey too.

The fish stench I wrote about in my last entry? That wasn’t the new furniture. It was a zucchini. Barb had given us some zucchini and cucumber from her garden and they were HUGE so we left them on the counter until I could make space for them in the fridge. So it was next to the microwave for almost 2 days. I think 24 hours from arrival to when I first noticed the smell. I wonder if it was a bad zucc (they had been sitting in the back room for who knows how long, Jake brought them up and forgot about them and didn’t even tell me he had been given anything until a few days later, not that I knew they were back there) or if the microwave leaked and cooked it. Thursday morning I went to the cupboard by the microwave and noticed the counter had yellowish water on it. The zucchini was completely liquid inside. And thankfully as soon as it was gone the place stopped stinking. YAY! (Ew, but yay.)

Thursday morning, Ashley had her first dentist visit. Absolutely lovely lady. Ash had brought Elmo to keep her company so the dentist counted Elmo’s teeth first. Ashley apparently has a small mouth (like me, yay) which may mean braces eventually. I can’t remember if she said anything about removing adult teeth eventually, probably not, things may change and you don’t want to freak out parents. She also has a "double tooth", her canine and incisor (I think?) are fused together. Apparently not a big deal and it doesn’t mean the adult versions will be fused. Just something interesting.

Going in and out of the dentist’s office, Ashley and I admired all the flowers, and she touched leaves on the trees, and she adored that. She was happy to be in the car too because that means "Jackson!" which also makes me happy. I’m glad she has discovered a new favourite song so now we don’t have to listen to Thriller over and over, we can alternate with Smooth Criminal.

On the way home we stopped at the hardware store. Thankfully as soon as we walked in, I was asked if I needed help. The lady picked out the screw I needed and then had to call for backup to pick the wrench needed. But I got my equipment and we came home and while Ashley ate lunch, I built a table! She loves it. She ate dinner at it the first night. We spend a good portion of each day sitting at the table colouring, or playing with her abacus.

This weekend has gone too quick. Yesterday we did our laundry which was a bit difficult because Ashley only wanted me. Thankfully we arrived at butter-zone time, so there were millions of available dryers when it came time to transfer the washed clothes. We used 8 dryers, but only 1 washer, which always amuses me. I’m lame like that. While Jake folded some clothes, Ashley and I wandered over to Rite-Aid to look at the cows on the milk bottles and the babies on the diaper packets. While there we met a little girl named Ivy who is only a few days younger than Ash. Both girls were so shy, it was adorable. Of course, as we parted ways they both said "bye". Aww.

This morning we grocery shopped, and went to Kmart. Of course when we came home Ashley went in the pool. We pretty much can’t go outside without her wanting to go in the pool. Some days she is there twice. She’s such a little water lover.

This apartment is slowly starting to look and feel like adults live here, which is funny to me because we’ve been here for 5 years. We have a clock, we have hooks in the bathroom for our towels to hang on while we shower (this was very important, previously we’ve just left the towel on the vanity but our blind broke so we can be possibly seen from the street so I’ve been keeping my towel on the sink instead and that is just silly. Need to fix/replace that blind…), and soon we will have a rug and this room will be arranged the way I originally wanted it to be when we moved in (before I knew where the cable hookup would be, holding the tv hostage in a different corner to where I wanted it). We got non-skid stuff to go under the couch so it doesn’t fly all over the place when we sit down like it does now. Now we need to fix the bathroom blind, get a proper curtain for the door in the lounge (we have a blanket hanging over the window…) and the bedroom window too maybe. And maybe, just maybe, we might get a bedframe so we aren’t just sleeping on a mattress/boxspring on the floor. One day.

I’ve been researching cars. Found one in Wallingford that fits my budget and needs/wants but I have to see if I can get someone who knows cars to come with me to check it out, otherwise it will be a piece of crap and I won’t realize. I hate shopping.

I have videos and pictures but it is late and hard to stay awake.

I can hear the clock ticking.

Phew, at least it was just a zucchini! I wonder if we’ll ever actually feel like grownups. It still weirds me out that I own appliances, or that I have a career. CAREER? I should be flipping burgers. Hah. I hope you find someone to help you check out that car, and that it turns out to be awesome.

stinky!

Our picture hook things have an upward tilt so things don’t fall off the end. How cute that Ashley likes to listen to ‘Jackson’. I don’t remember you getting excited about Smashing Pumpkins. Although I know you have at least one you listen to sometimes. Good luck with the car. *giant hugs*
