Rocket to the moon?
Today has been a day of words. Twice Ashley has told me "dia-er chane" (diaper change) and walked off to the change table. One time she was wet and the other she was poopy. So smart. She also said ‘hair’ while touching her hair (and/or mine, I’ve forgotten) and ‘armpit’ while touching her armpit.
I’m trying to be really good about my eating. I got a food tracker app to keep me accountable, and our fridge is overloaded with veggies so I can have salads for lunch. Man they have been AWESOME salads. I’ve never really been fond of them, so I’m impressed with myself. Last night we had what I dubbed a "salad-rito" for dinner. We had made a mexican chicken soup for dinner over the weekend that kind of sucked, but the shredded chicken in it is yummy. So I dried some of that out a bit in a pan, stirred in a bit of bbq sauce. On a tortilla I smeared a glob of hummus, piled on lettuce (we have a mixed pack of random lettuces), a bit of chicken (which is mixed up with white beans), topped with shredded carrot and cucumber… SO GOOD. It is more than 24 hours later and I’m still thinking about it. So is Jake. It was HUGE and filling and oh, so tasty. After tomorrow’s lunch I’m out of the shredded chicken but I’m sure I’ll come up with something just as good to go with my veggies to make them awesome.
Yesterday afternoon, Ashley and I went for a random journey to Kmart. I wanted/needed a salad spinner, but I ended up spending a LOT of money. All the winter clothes were on clearance and there were so many cute things! I got a pair of cookie monster pjs (so I can match Jake when he wears his! heh) and Ash got a hoodie (black with multi coloured polka dots), a skirt (darkish warm denim with sequins along the end, kinda like the skirt in the second photo of this entry) and some thin pjs for this summer, with owls on them. Those weren’t really the reason for the massive expense of the trip, that was mostly diapers and partly salad spinner.
Ash was so good while we were shopping, but when we got to the register… ugh. First she wanted the rewards card, then she wanted my wallet. She only wanted the thing I needed at that moment, and howled because I would not give them to her. Once we were done, she was happy as a clam and wave goodbye to everyone in the store (I think some people waved back).
I finished Journey To The Centre Of The Earth tonight. Not bad. It seemed plausible enough until they got to the lit-up sea with wind and clouds and the mastodons and pleisiosaurus (man I can’t spell) and 12 foot tall man and such. And that it ended with a volcano. Why not a geyser? Oh well. Now I have to find another book to read. I am going to CRUSH my goal of 10 (or is it 15) books read, seeing as I still have 2 years to go.
It snowed last night. This afternoon Jake came home from work and told me that he had been told to tell me to move my car for the plow guy, asap. Makes no sense seeing as 1) there is barely any snow on the ground, and what is there is rapidly melting (where my car was has a slight border of snow but not even enough to be able to plow really, not an issue for driving or parking), 2) they can’t plow until 9pm or later when all the shops shut and the parking lot empties. Whatever. I moved to a spot that is not near anything resembling snow, and I’ll move back tomorrow because I am in a silly park that I don’t feel right being in (right next to the entrance to the grocery store, something that should be marked as disabled but isn’t.
Have I mentioned that my Dad is coming to visit soon? Really soon? Like, in a week and a half? I can’t wait! I remember when he first came to visit alone 2 years ago and I was a little apprehensive because we hadn’t spent alone time in… almost forever, I wasn’t sure how we would get along without a Mum-buffer in such close proximity for 2 weeks. Now, I know we get along great, and so I can just be "Yay! Dad visit!" It is just time to build a father-daughter friendship and I love that so very much.
Title: The one thing on our grocery list so far is ‘swiss miss’, which I keep hearing in Leonard Hofstadter’s voice "swiiissss miiisss instant cocoa" which sends my brain down a long quote-road.
