Leaping Impaler!

How has half a week gone by?

Anyway, so, did I write about all of Wednesday? I feel like I left something out. Oh yeah! When we got back, we went downstairs to eat and as soon as I opened the door, I heard one of the waitresses say "They’re back! They’re back!" which made me laugh. Then there was a YAY as Jake announced the girliness of our future. Not long after, a sign appeared under the lunch specials board. I could deal with the d in ‘congrats’, but it was also initially missing the h in my name, so I made Jake get that fixed. People need to learn my name, it’s not like it is hard or anything.

On Thursday after 2nd brekkie/eating with Jake on his lunch break, Mum and I went to the mall. We got her a new handbag for travel, looked at boots for her, and looked at baby/maternity stuff. We found another snugglesaurus, a highly awesome blanket Jake and I had bought for a baby shower gift earlier this year. We’ve been looking for it again ever since we found out there’s a baby in me, so I was SO HAPPY to finally find it. I love it. Mum also got an awesomely fluffy blanket for baby (I almost said her name. Around here now she gets referred to as her name and as much as I want to keep it a secret, at least from the internet at large (there is no way I could keep it from people in person, or really individual people that ask, like when I was trying to keep the pregnancy a secret at the beginning) I have a feeling I will slip up sooner or later. I’ve got more than 4 months of entries, it’s bound to fall out one day.) that says "grandma loves me" and I want that blanket for me. It is soooo soft. She also bought me 2 pairs of jeans and a shirt with a tiger on it. A PURPLE shirt with a TIGER on it. Do you realise how much of a Sez shirt that is? It’s perfect! I love it. My mum is so awesome.

On the way home we stopped off at the post office where I had a package of clothes I’d ordered online, so it was a true mini-christmas when I got home and got to try everything on. I got an awesome cardigan that is just awesome and soft and warm, I so love it. And I got a few long tank tops, one of which is maternity rather than just ‘tall’ and it is soft and stretchy and aaah. I can’t wait to get to the laundromat so I can wash all these new clothes and wear them without being drowned in that new-clothes smell. You know, where it smells like the store?

I don’t remember what we did on Friday. I think we did nothing until Jake was done for the day, then we went to Walt Barber the barber, and Stop & Shop. Excitement! Woo!

Saturday morning, I got up, got breakfast in me, got dressed, filled my bag with snacks, and we headed out to New London to spend the day with Jake’s mum (Lisa). It was a lovely loooong day, but productive, so yeah, goodness.

We started the day with lunch at Panera, where I had an apple crunch muffin. It was mmm delicious. Not very ‘crunch’, but still, yummy. Didn’t need a beverage with it, which made me happy. I had one tiny sip of Jake’s coffee, and burnt my tongue. One of the many reasons I hate coffee, I can’t drink it hot without killing my tasting muscle. (In fact, I fail with anything hot, liquid or not. I just burn my tongue like crazy!)

Next stop was Babies R Us, which was our main location for the day. We set up a baby registry, which I haven’t looked through to see what was scanned. After the first thing, I handed the scanner to Lisa because it wouldn’t listen to me, so there were times when she went off and scanned things without my knowledge. Gotta find out what I apparently want! We picked out a crib, stroller, high chair, and a bunch of stuff that goes with those things. After being there for what felt like 10 minutes but was possibly an hour, I had to sit on the floor. I was getting tunnel vision, so I knew if I didn’t sit down I was going to faint. Sitting and eating a fun size milky way (exact same thing as a mars bar, not boring like milky ways are at home) gave me a rest and a deliciosu boost of sugar, but for most of the rest of our time there, I had to sit down as soon as I stopped walking. I can do walking around for ages when I feel like that, but stopping moving? That’s a way to get me to hit the floor (although I do know how to faint expertly, I freaked Jake out once when I fainted in the shower – years ago – but I knew I was in control. Almost completely unconscious me found the corner of the bathtub and sat down gently. I’m just that awesome). At the end of the scanning-expedition, I got a bag of semi-cool stuff, bunch of samples and coupons, so that’s always good, even if most of the coupons are for things that are overpriced there.

After the grandmothers bought some things for the baby (I can’t remember it all, but I do know we now have an adorable monkey bouncer seat thing sitting on the recliner. I have to find a place for it soon or it is going to make me want the baby here now, even more than I already want that!) we popped over the road to register at Target. I had to sit for most of that time too, but that’s because the mini-sezsquid was stretching out. So then I get to say things like "excuse me, I have to go sit down, it feels like I’m getting an internal pap smear" which makes me giggle because I’m silly like that. I have really NO CLUE what we registered for at Target, I think by that point we were all exhausted and wanting to be done, so Lisa just scanned some things and we left (after a few cute fluffy outfits were bought for bub). Again, I got samples and coupons as a "thanks for registering!" gift. Which is cool. I like free gifts, even if they aren’t super majorly exciting.

Last stop on our day out was Paul’s Pasta, which was a cute little place that made it’s own pasta, apparently. I was a touch disappointed that they didn’t have gnocchi on the menu, I’m not sure I’ve ever had ‘homemade’ gnocchi, other than my own, so I wanted to compare! Instead, I got ravioli, a combination of meat and cheese, and it was just… eh. Ok. Not the greatest, but it was as good as I was expecting. It was kind of a small menu, so for a fussy bitch like me, there were very few options. I ate it all, and sopped up all the tasty sauce with the tasty garlic bread until the butter on the bread got too cold and it turned very unappealing. One of the perils of eating outside with a lovely view, I guess.

After dinner we went back to Lisa’s and sat around for hours, chatting and looking up places on Lisa’s globe (that we gave her for christmas a few years ago). We waited for Matt to come home (Jake and I hadn’t seen him since we found out we were pregnant – we had lastseen him 2 days previous) and then showed him some of the cute things that had been purchased throughout the day.

We eventually got home at 10pm, more than 12 hours after we left. Long day!

Today we have RELAXED. I feel like I slept in, but I probably didn’t. It’s hard to sleep in when we have guests, because I want to spend as much time as possible with them, so I don’t want to sleep too much. I think when Mum leaves, I’ll probably sleep rather late for 2-3 days, like I did when Ellen left. We had peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, which I feel needs mentioning but I’m not sure why. Maybe because it took us almost an hour to come up with that idea.

We went for a walk in the afternoon, which is when all the photos from this entry were taken. There was one fence that was covered in all different looking fungi, mum took pictures of them all because she has ended up with a series of berry photos and a series of fungi photos from this trip. We added to both series today.

Dinner was white bean and chicken chili, again. I feel like we have made that a lot. Is 3 times in the last 3 months a lot? Nah, not when something is that good and nutritious. Mmm, chili.

Hopefully my next entry won’t be more than a few days away, I don’t want to have to write this much all at once again!

Title: Because of her loong spine and all other bones, Jake and Lisa keep referring to the baby as a gazelle. So mum called her a leaping impala (because there are what I call "frolicking antelope" signs along the highway, so mum came up with her own name for them) but instead of saying impala she said impaler. Everyone’s impression of a leaping impaler was hilarious!
