I will be overjoyed.
Ashley is really getting mobile. She’s getting very good at scooting around on her bum, although I don’t know if she knows that she is doing that. She only does it when she’s playing with a toy and it drops just out of her reach, then she’ll stretch and reach and move a little bit, pick it up and then start all over again. She can also, what I guess is called commando crawling? But backwards. She’ll lay on her tummy and push herself backwards, which often results in her getting trapped on a leg of a chair or something, which she HATES.
I had come up with a nifty way to get stuff done, like dishes. I’d just put her in her bathtub with all her bath toys. That won’t work any more though, she throws things out and then just about topples out of the tub trying to get things. So today I had a baby scooting around the kitchen while I washed dishes, which was kinda funny except that I had to keep making sure I wasn’t about to step on her hand or something.
She’s getting really annoying with sleeping lately. In the middle of the night she’ll decide she doesn’t want the crib anymore and will CRY if we try to lay her in it, but she’ll happily sleep next to me. Which means I don’t get to sleep very well because I spend the time being kicked and hit awake, or stopping the tiny whinges before they become actual cries. She also refuses to let me free during nap time, holding me hostage via my nipple. I told her today that she had to start letting me free at nap time and I was going to be just in the next room. She’s napping now and… it’s been not even 5 minutes and she’s about to start crying.

Bed hair from the other day.
A few hours later, nap attempt #2.
We haven’t done much today. I still have ridiculously strong urges to get rid of all our junk. A craving for cleaning and organising. It’s ridiculous. I barely get time to do things for this, so I have lots of half-done piles of mess and it is driving me crazy. Today I went through my sock drawer (I have 8 pairs of socks with tags on them still!) and took out all the ones with holes. Well, all the regular kind with holes, it is quite hard to tell when toe socks have holes, until they are being worn.
I’ve also got the gate out of the box, I’ve read the instructions, I just have to actually try to make it fit our doorway. I’m almost certain it will stay up for a week or so before we get rid of it out of pure frustration, it’s a "hands free!" gate so it has to be opened with a foot pedal, and the only doorway we need to put it in… has a few inches drop in the ground on one side. So I’m predicting that side will be too annoying and we’ll have to just live with that door shut always, which sucks, because having that door open really makes the apartment feel way more spacious.
Last Thursday I went for a nice long walk in the afternoon with Ash in the stroller, ending with a hopeful trip to the post office that turned out to be pointless because there was only boring mail like bills waiting for me. So on Friday afternoon, we went for another walk, also ending the journey at the post office. This time the mail was all fun stuff. A big box from amazon (Bad25, Matchbox 20’s new album, workout dvd), a photobook from shutterfly (I made "Ashley’s family" which has pictures of all our family with their names and how they are related to Ashley. I thought it might help her recognise people so they feel less like strangers when she does see them) and a copy of Entertainment Weekly with a big section on The Big Bang Theory. I have NO IDEA why we get that magazine, but we do, and it is in Jake’s name and everything. Random free magazine. It makes for nice light reading in the evenings after everyone has gone to bed. I don’t think I’d ever pay for a magazine subscription, but I do like magazines.
The weekend was pretty standard. Because of Ashley’s want to sleep with me at night, both days when Jake got up (actually I think I woke him at 6:30 on SAturday) I made him take the bub and I curled up and slept for another hour. Best hour of sleep EVER. Saturday morning, Ash needed her morning nap and I wanted groceries bought asap so I left her with Jake and I went to go buy things, which was SO MUCH FUN. I wasn’t hungry, so of course I bought way too much stuff (I don’t have this problem when I am hungry. When I’m hungry and grocery shopping, I buy less than I need, and nothing frivolous.) but I don’t care. It’s so much easier doing things without a baby. Ash didn’t nap while I was gone, of course, but whatever.
Saturday night is Skype with my parents night. That has been getting increasingly difficult though, because we start at 8pm and that is bed time. Can’t wait for daylight savings, then it will be 7 and then 6pm! Much better. Until then, we’ll either keep having tiny chats or switch to our morning, their night. Will have to discuss next Saturday.
Sunday… we watched a movie (Paul – it was pretty enjoyable) and that’s about it. There was a get-together for Kristen’s birthday but we didn’t go, which turned out to be a brilliant move because Ash spent all the time we would have been there fussing up a storm, because she was overtired and just generally crabby. That would have sucked if we had gone. The place was almost an hour away, and meeting 90 minutes before bedtime… it just didn’t make sense.
Ash is doing so good this nap, 20 minutes of freedom for me so far! Yay! It helps when she lets me free early on, if she eats for 25 minutes then I have no chance of getting free. Even if she will nap for more than an hour with me there, if I leave close to or after the half hour mark, she’s done. But today I was free and out of the room in 12 minutes. Woo!
I have this photo frame that is meant for a picture of every month. But the picture size is I think wallet size, so I can only get photos that big if I get 4 of them. What the hell would I do with the other 3?
Woken baby! Bugger, I jinxed it.
…
At least that time she fell back asleep when I went in, slept for 90 minutes total. One day, one day she will sleep for more than 30 minutes during the day without needing me next to her.
This entry has taken me all day to write. At least it has gotten written! Last night I wanted to write but had to reinstall/update things on the comp instead. I did end up doing a survey that was short but pretty good. So good I’d post here but it’s too long, and this entry is long enough as it is. I should put pictures in to break it up. You can go check the survey out if you want.
The family book is such a great idea. I bet it’ll end up being a much treasured item when she’s grown up, too.

I love the idea of a family book. I may have to steal it from you.

Lol, I think you mean “the army crawl”. Commando crawling would likely be referring to going without underwear… or a diaper in this case. I mean, it SHOULD refer to a soldier but going commando for some reason has become going without underwear. Here I pictured a little naked baby tush crawling away from you, hehe. Don’t worry, she will do that too pretty soon! 😉

Oh! If you want some ideas for keeping her busy while you’re doing dishes or cooking I have a few! I use the highchair a LOT to keep my kids busy. Of course you can give her a snack but that lasts like 5mins. I would also make a bowl of soapy water (with baby soap) and give it to them with some toys in it. Sometimes I just put the soapy water right on the tray if it has a lip. Just an inch of

water in their highchair tray will keep them pretty busy! It’s a mess of course. I’d just put them in their diaper ahead of time and then put on pjs when they are done. You can also use some food coloring in vanilla pudding or yogurt and let her “finger paint” with it. Safe to eat. Or you can put real pant in a gallon zip lock and tape it to her tray and let her smoosh the colors around safely in

the bag. My son was a BIG fan of a bowl and spoon to play with but it’s noisy of course! Anywho, just a few ideas in case you were frustrated with her being under foot 😀 She sure is adorable!

Btw, this WILL get easier. The sleeping and napping issues won’t last forever. And you are a wonderful mommy 🙂 Hang in there!

Boxes are great fun!!!!

I love the bed head. She looks so long laying on the bed. Jake always liked a wooden spoon some bowls or plates he would bang on stuff while i cooked or cleaned.

RYN: The Toddler’s Busy Book is a wonderful book of things to do with kiddos. The age is 18months-3yrs so Ashley will be too young for some of the ideas but some she can do and others she can do with modification. I used to try to pick out three things that the kids could do from the book each night and have them ready to go for morning. Some took a little preparation (not much) and when I was
