Comparative Shitbox
Too long between updates, Sez. Get better at that!
My Mum is here. Has been for a week. We picked her up last Saturday. Jake and I had a little road trip date which was lovely. We bought chocolate fudge and starburst jelly beans and sushi to eat on the ride. The sushi was so I could prepare my mouth for all the sweets. It worked. And it was awesome driving and being fed sushi. We got to the airport 10 minutes before Mum’s scheduled landing. 2 hours later, we finally saw her. Always fun waiting in the airport. So we got home at about 9, and Ashley was still running laps around her Grandma Lisa even though it was an hour past bedtime. It was good that Mum got to see Ash before she went to sleep, so we let her stay up until 9:30.
We have eaten breakfast downstairs every day (except today) for the past week. I’ve had egg/cheese/ham on an English muffin, banana pancakes, a turkey reuben, a cheeseburger, and a raspberry Danish. I think I had the faux-mcmuffin twice. It was all AWESOMELY DELICIOUS food, because duh. All except Sunday we ate at 11, so really it wasn’t breakfast, at the most it was Breakfast II.
Mum and I rearranged the lounge room (that is also the dining room and Ashley’s play room) and we have SPACE and ORDER and it is so great. A few things haven’t been moved yet, and there are a few piles of stuff in places which is starting to drive me nuts, but other than that it is wonderful to have things in a different place. It was fairly easy, we basically just rotated the room counter-clockwise 90 degrees. And put a rug behind the couch to mark that area as Ashley’s play area. BAM! Ashley was so good while we did stuff, sometimes she let Mum help me, and other times she was happy to read or play calmly with her Grandma while I did stuff.
Ashley is getting great at sentences. The funniest one is when she just says "ride your bike, Ashley". One day while I was showering but she was still eating dinner, she said that over and over and over. I don’t think we’ve ever said that to her like that, so it isn’t just mimicry. It is so odd. She also calls Pa a lot. The ‘conversation’ always goes "Hi Pa… too much… too much… bye" and then she puts whatever she was using as a phone down as though she is hanging up.
Mum and I took Ashley to look at the library the other day. The kids area is pretty cool. They have story time for 1 year olds, and for 2 year olds.. which I should have called to register for but I haven’t yet. Should. Must. It is Monday morning so I’ll have to call very early Monday. Blah. We were going to register in person on Friday (and check out the story time that we don’t have to register for) but I backed out because I suck like that.
Friday was Jake’s and my 7th wedding anniversary. We all went to Red Robin for an awesomely delicious celebratory dinner. We go so infrequently that I end up wondering if the almost hour drive is worth it. It so is. Yum. Jake and I split our meals. He got the octoberfest burger, and I got my standard bbq chicken sandwich that Jake had never tried. It was the best idea ever. So good! Ashley had a great time because we were in a booth with a lovely window view so she sat in a booster seat and looked out the window a lot.
Tomorrow we are going apple picking with Nick and Stacy. I wish I knew the kind of apples I like. Whatever, should be fun. Ashley got pink gumboots today and afterwards I realised they will probably be her most appropriate shoes for tomorrow. She adores her boots, I think because they are pink.
Mum leaves on Thursday. Hopefully I wll get lots done tis week that I wwant to get done. (I don’t know why but my keyboard is misbehaving. Rargh!)
Title: The one and only choice I had in my "title ideas" list. It is what my old car was. A fine thing, but compared to the new version? Crud like whoa.
We have had a good time haven’t we. I loved my guacamole bacon burger at Red Robin. There, it is recorded in case I forget.

I can’t believe Ashley is old enough for a booster seat! In my mind she is just a little baby even though I know she’s older than Molly Jo!
