A man who is bereft of ostrich

It only took me… just over 5 months, but I think I’ve finally worked out how to make my life work with a baby around. The first step was a fun one – after I get Ashley to sleep (any time between 9 and 10:30), Jake goes to sleep too and I go to the couch and play on my DS for an hour. That little bit of Sez time really makes me feel good every day. I started doing this every night this past Saturday. Since then I’ve worked out a way to clean efficiently (5-10 minutes before I shower). I got up early Monday morning and swept the apartment, which gave me a happy boost that resulted in lots of cleaning and putting away and such all day long.

I’ve also started working harder on swagbucks. A little bit of time every day and I get amazon gift cards! Already got $10 worth in 4 days, previously that much has taken me weeks or longer. Makes me happy because it’s not difficult at all, and it’s a good way to supplement our christmas/birthday budget. If you’re in the US, you should totally join if you haven’t already. This morning, Ashley and I went to the post office at 9am when it opened. It was already bordering on 30C degrees, ridiculous. (I hate summer.) As I was getting things out of the po box, one of the ladies that works there came rushing over to see the baby! I asked her if they do baby passport photos, and they do. She rushed off, got the package I had waiting for me (more baby photos, woo!) and opened the doors for me so we could get Ash’s photo taken. She was such a good little bub, looking right at the camera (she’s used to cameras, Friday the 13th was the first day IN HER LIFE that a photo wasn’t taken) with a not-smile-not-grump face. Then we came home, I managed to get the stroller back in the car boot with one arm (Ash was in the other) and then we went to hang out at the restaurant for a little bit.

On Saturday, Jake worked. Ash and I got bored at around 2:30, so we went to the restaurant to hang out. We ended up spending an hour there. Ashy got Barb hugs, and she got to play with the little basket of jams on the counter. She pulled the ceramic dish, full of jam, out of the basket, then took all the jams out individually. I was pretty impressed by her dexterity. She also semi-crawled across the counter when I moved her away from the jams and onto my lap. She didn’t go very far, but it was pretty awesome. Go baby!

Ash had carrots today. She seemed to really enjoy it, I think because it wasn’t a pure liquid, there was texture to it. She had to have a bath afterwards she got SO covered.

Must stop writing, smoosh is getting fussy. Poor bub. She’s so cute and big. It’s crazy how good she is at sitting up now.

ha ha I’ve started feeding Violet with just a diaper on for that reason! Sooooo messy! I always take “me time” when hubs is giving V the bottle. It’s nice just having a bit to check email and stuff guilt-free 😀 Gawd, I don’t even know where my DS is, haven’t played it since I was preggers! Oh my I miss it suddenly! Love all your outfits for her! Girl clothing is so awesome!

Lily has a polka dot dress like that, too! I’m so excited about baby food. How do you determine how often she gets “grown up” food and how often she gets milk?

RYN: HA HA HA HA! I feel the same way too! She looks so much prettier than me when we’re out and about!… or… you know at home (when I’m lucky if I’ve brushed my hair).

My goodness your daughter is beautiful! RYN: I am feeling a bit better, changed up my prenatals so that is helping too. Food doesn’t seem/smell so bad anymore either 😀

I’ve discovered a new way to keep our shower clean – it has white tiles, and Phil using this orange industrial hand cleaner in there, so the grout and tiles are always yellowy looking, but I am learning, if I keep a scrubbing brush in there, and every night I tackle a small section, it’s a continuous clean shower – so proud of that achievement!!! It’s the small things that make you feel better. Love the foot chewing pic BTW!!! hehehehe!

Yay for getting a happy/productive life-system figured out 😀 And yay for adorable babies who can eat their own toes. And yay for free gift cards. I’m starting back at uni on Monday… I need to work out how to do that whole ‘being organised’ thing again. And some time within the next two weeks I’m gonna become an aunty. Yay for more babies 😀 😀 *huggles of squish* *yays of yay*

She’s so gorgeous, Sez! And I’m so proud of how well you’ve adapted to the role of mother. You’re doing beautifully 🙂

looks like she is playing “big girl” with Daddy. So beautiful all of the photos. You only took 5 months!!! I don’t think I ever really figured it out.

Hopefully, you’ve been coping with the heat. It’s melting my brain!
