New Mexico: Week Twenty Eight

My last week here.

I started taking things down today… filled up a giant box of clothes, electronics and assorted items that I am going to send back to Kansas via UPS – the rest is being laundered and folded to be ready to thrown in the suitcase so I’ll have clothes to last me through the week. The emptiness in this room reminds me of the first night I got here. I can’t believe that was so long ago.

Found out that one of my favorite line cooks at Houlihan’s died last night in a one car accident, he lost control of his SUV, went across the median and flipped it several times; another line cook was in the truck with him but only suffered minor injuries BECAUSE HE WAS WEARING HIS SEATBELT. The driver, sadly, was not: he was ejected from the truck and died at the hospital. I’m super sad to hear this because he had been there about as long as I had, and he left behind a wife and child… the restaurant started a fund to help raise money to send him back to Mexico to be buried and I’m the idiot who wrote his last check to his landlord last week and doesnt have more til he gets back to Kansas… hopefully they will still take a check next week.

Still unsure about what the plans are for me to come back during the week of Thanksgiving, I think I am on the road Saturday, and setting up on Sunday for the event on Monday and Tuesday… I hope to be back on the road on Tuesday, in Manhattan Wednesday to gather up what I need, hit the road and be in Wichita that same day, if not early on Thursday. We’ll see how it actually plays out, but I am definitely ready to be back in Wichita.

I’m working like a dog this week – but since I had such a productive packing day today I think the rest can wait till Sunday, since it’s my last day AND my day off from work.

Interesting week ahead.
