The B Team

The snow keeps coming and even though there are other places in our state (and country) that have a lot more than we do, I’m pretty much over it. My husband works a lot of hours and commutes 45 miles. Most days he leaves at 6:00 am and gets home between 8 and 11:00 pm. So it’s pretty much up to me and the kids to keep the driveway clear. I drive a smaller vehicle so if we don’t keep up with it, I get stuck. Which is a pain. I finally had it plowed the other day but we’ve had another 4-5″ dumped on us since I had it plowed. Looks like me and the boys will be back out there today, shoveling snow.

I had a really crazy day at work yesterday. We had two events to decorate and very tight time constraints so we had to split up into two teams. On the rare occasion that we do that, I am the second “team leader”. My event was the smaller of the two but we were short one centerpiece so I had to drive 35 miles back to our workshop to get another centerpiece. It was snowing and the roads were bad so it took even longer to get there and back. Afterward, we met the other team at their location to help them finish up their huge event. I came in on the middle of setting up a backdrop that hadn’t been accurately measured out so it was all wonky. It’s hard to explain but I basically had to take it apart and put it back together so that all three sections were even, otherwise it would’ve looked really dumb. And that was frustrating because if it had been done right to start with it would’ve been so much faster. By the time I got done with the backdrop, it was time to go back to the first venue to tear down and pack everything up. Again, the roads were horrible. My niece was one of the other people on my team (the third person was my oldest son) and she got a very sudden migraine headache. So I’m driving across the county, on these horribly slippery, snow covered roads while she’s sitting in the seat next to me throwing up into a little tupperware-type container that I happened to have in my bag. Every few minutes I stopped so she could empty the container and then we’d keep going. I felt SO BAD for her but the staff at the venue was waiting for us to get there so they could leave for the day – they were paying people to sit there and wait for us to get there to pick up our stuff! So nerve racking. By the time we got back to the venue, my niece was so sick she couldn’t even hardly stand up. She stayed in the vehicle while my son and I went in and packed everything up and loaded it into the vehicle. I could tell that the staff and banquet manager were chomping at the bit to get out of there and I was worried about my niece out there throwing up so I was rushing. And I forgot an entire backdrop! I took my niece home after that because she couldn’t even drive at this point. When I got back to my boss’s place to drop off her vehicle, she told me that I’d forgotten the backdrop. I was so mad at myself for screwing up. She wasn’t mad at all but I have been kicking myself ever since. I offered to go back to get it (which would’ve been my FOURTH time driving all the way out to that venue) but she said the banquet manager said we could go pick it up Monday because they all wanted to leave for the day. Ugh. I hate it when I screw up!
