Mission Pretty-Much Accomplished
I just noticed a previous entry dating the beginning of my mammoth "finish all the alcohol I have" mission. I have pretty much reached the end – 18 months of heavy drinking later. Actually, I lived away for nine of those months, but I drank heavily of other sources (and sauces).
I have just two bottles of my original collection left: the Licór 43 and some white crème de cacao; I also have a bottle of Glayva I rescued from the kitchen, and which I think I will repatriate, and a bottle of lychee liqueur my friends bought me for my last birthday (I already had half a bottle of the same, so I threw that away). Recently, increasing guilt over the amount I still had to drink, and especially the temptation that even the unlikely candidates were providing, led me to pour about 20 down the drain – mostly long-faded liqueurs. Another dozen went to my friends, who moved in two streets away, and who will drink them (in fact, they were getting creative with the absinthe far sooner than I expected). I still vuy wine, and that will have to be dealt with one way or another (I’m hoping some kudzu extract, for which there is some scientific evidence to suggest it can suppress alcohol-dependent tendencies) – the last resort being the doctor.
So, that’s one terribly unhealthy tranche of my life I have despatched. Shame I didn’t have the nerve to pour it all away back in 2007, but too late to change that now. At least I have two large shelves I can use for other things…
