Hoping to Avoid a Repeat of Last Sunday

Hmmm… I’m not totally satisfied with the capitalisation in that title.

Anyway, last Sunday was a disaster. I had wanted to go out on Saturday, as did Mel. Dax said he and Gre would come round after they’d been to Lucy and Kev’s, but they all bailed – Dax and Gre because they didn’t finish till one a.m., and Mel because  Lisa wouldn’t join us, and Cliare was in Preston.

So when Dax replied he was going to the quiz on Sunday, with Katie and others, I leapt at the chance. I drank a half-bottle of white wine, a couple of champagne cocktails (using up a bottle I’d started the night before), a strong Cuba Libre, and a passionfruit martini before I left home, and mainlined vodka and coke once I got there.

The upside: we had a good time at the quiz, though we didn;t come close to winning, and I snogged a very cute and funny guy who was a friend of Katie’s new boyf John (I think) – sadly straight (I also think).

But then it all went wrong. I know we went to this cocktail bar nearby I like, and then that’s it. Fast-forward to me, covered in my own sick at the foot of our stairs at home, being shouted at by my mum. Turns out, we’d gone to another bar, I’d drunk lots more champagne, and then I didappeared. Dax found me outside my house, unable to get back in, very ill. I vomited black mucus.

I think it freaked out my mum. I’d already decided to take the Monday off work, so it wasn;t a problem, but she saw a side of me I have taken much care to conceal from my family. I could haver told her that all my friends – Mel, Dax, Adamene, even Lucy – have done the same, got disasterously drunk etc, but I doubt that would have helped.

Fortunately, my mother doesn’t hold grudges, so tonight when she guessed I wanted to go out, she offered me money. I’ll pay her back of course.

On a related note, I have an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday. I guess I’ll find out if all this heavy drinking really has done me serious internal damage. Fingers crossed, eh?
