What is your most Vivid Childhood Memory

I have three very vivid childhood memories, but I won’t go into them because they are extremely painful.

However, One very prominent memory is still fresh in my mind. In fact, I awoke today thinking about it.

This memory has to do with my visit to London in 1970 when my father won an all- expense- paid vacation to London, England. He won that prize for the most Motorolla color TV’s he sold in his electronic store.

In August 1970 my Dad, Mom and I who was 7years-old at the time board a plane to London, England. I was mesmorized by the long plane ride. On the plane I was served Omelette for brunch and orange juice and coffee.

I was introduced to coffee since I was 7 and I’ve been a coffee drinker since.

I remember the stewart on the plane played a game with the passengers. “I’ll give you a nice bottle of wine to the youngest lady on the plane!” said the stewart. All the women raised their hands. One young 17 year old lady was about to be the proud recipient when next to me the lady cried, “Wait! She is not the youngest lady in the plane…this young lady next to me is!” She smiled and patted me on the back. “Well, now! ” said the stewart, “I stand corrected!” She handed my parents the bottle of wine and everyone on board applauded.

I was amazed by the beauty of London. We stayed at the famous Winston Manor Hotel. It was a luxurious hotel with breakfast delivered to your suite every morning. Yum! I loved the bacon and eggs, coffee, croissants, jam and milk every single morning. Yes..I was a chubby little girl and I loved eating! 😀

We were taken on tour every day. We saw the infamous Big Ben. I went to Picadelli Square where I had a field day with the pigeons! I remember once when we went to this ancient English castle near Picadilli Sq. We were seated in a long table and given bread, juice, coffee, wine, chicken and soup. The waiter taught us how the English ate without utensils. All we were given was a three pronged spoon, like the ones they give you at Kentuky Fried Chicken. With this you were suppose to hold your chicken with one hand and pull the meat with the pronged utensil. Before the chicken entree we were given a clear consome soup and we were suppose to eat it without a spoon! The lady said to lift the bowl to our lips and slirp the soup. Mother and I did just that.

My most vivid memory of this trip was when my parents and I went to eat lunch in this very elegant restaurant that was located inside the hotel. There was a very elegant area rug with some kind of English emblem of a lion. I ordered spahgetti and my parents ordered some red wine. The waiter placed a very large silver ice bucket next to us and opened up the red wine bottle. He placed the open bottle inside the three legged, silver ice bucket. As I sat there twrilling my spahgetti with the back of my folk, I was swinging my left leg to and fro. I kept on swinging my left leg in a rather unconscious leg dance. Suddenly Booom! Down went the ice bucket spilling the bottle of red wine. It made a huge and ugly red stain on the rug…luckily the rug was scarlet! My father’s face matched the color of the wine. 😀

My mother looked at me with furious eyes! The Matree D

ordered the waiter to clean the rug and my father offered to pay for the rug. “That won’t be necessary, sir” said the Matree D as he looked up to my father whose face was still a maroon color. I was whisked up to the hotel room and sent to bed. 🙁

It really was a blessing since I was in love with the hotel room and its’ 5 star service anyways 😀

That was my most comical vivid childhood memory..I have another one, but it will have to do until next entry.
