Christmas Eve

Hello again

It is Christmas Eve morning! I just got up 5 minutes ago! Still cobwebs in my eyes and I am about to make myself a pot of coffee. A range of all sorts of delicious aromas are coming from my kitchen. Mom is roasting a suckling pig. She is making her famous ‘con-gris’ which is a mixture of white rice and black beans.

I have baked an assortment of Christmas cookies.

The traditional Spanish Christmas Eve meal consists of a Roast Pork, a side dish called ‘yuka’ which is fried cassava in juice, salad, ‘con-gris’ ( a mixture of white rice and black beans), flan, spanish nuggets called ‘Turron’ and coffee. Usually the Spanish folks have expresso coffee or ‘cafe’…I like to mix both Spanish and English Christmas traditions…I have the pork, the rice, no Cassava, cookies, hot chocolate, turron, cookies and of course, Christmas cake. It used to be that we celebrated Christmas Eve here at home..and a lot of guests would come and would linger here and talk and carried on..but now since my brother married we have Thanksgiving and Christmas at his house. I think I will play with his dog, Pugsley. : 0 ) We are planning to go to Midnight Mass. Well, mother is calling…there are lots of chores to do..so I am just leaving you with the sweet scent of Christmas food to ponder with. I am sure you can smell the enticing aroma of the suckling pig, the smell of flour and cinnamon and sugar coming from the oven…the delightful aroma of chocolate simmering on the stove…hope I haven’t made you too hungry.
