Now..What???

Hello All:

Well I told you all the new job is great and I really liked it. Well, I had the meeting with the execs on Monday and they were really grilling me like ..hard. I felt I was not prepared because I thought since they have already seen my work and like that it was going to be like a given. They were coming at me left and right. I am experienced in interviewing so I didn’t leave thinking I did bad but just not as great as I could have been had I been more prepared and with a sense of maybe they are considering other candidates as well.

The next day, (yesterday) one of the Execs wanted to meet with me. She told me they were VERY impressed with me and I said all the right things in the interview and they want me and yadda yadda yadda. GREAT! I would have never thought my interview was that great. Yall should have heard some of the things they asked me. However, I like my current position and division and with the new position I wouldn’t be so hands on as I am now. My words not the Execs. The new position seems more Administrative/Receptionist like and less Administrator/Project Coordination. She assured me that I would be hands on and working on Special Projects and with my background they see me in a Leadership position and they don’t want people who are looking to be in the same position long. Anyway they want to make me permanent but they are battling with my head hunter over the money..Right now my head hunter wants 20% of my yearly salary (from them not me of course) but the longer I contract the percentage goes down, so they told me they want to wait a little while till the percentage goes down to 10% or just a one time fee of $500.00 So, that’s understandable. In the meantime they want me to feel like a member of the team and yadda yadda yadda, the rest is just technicalities.

I am feeling mixed about the whole thing. Yesterday, I was really sort of bummed, I feel like I am taking a step back. On the other hand, she is telling me that they want to see me work in different area because they see the potential in me and want me to take two steps forward. I am feeling more positive today because it is a great company and the people seem really cool. On top of that, we get great benefits and tons of vacation not including we get the same time of School Administrators get because we work so closely with them. That means a week at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break! So, I want to know what you guys feel about the taking a step back. Is it cool to take a step back when you could potentially take two steps forward? Now What?

Please Give Me Advice.

Yes. That hiring practice is a common way to recruit people from temp agencies. When I was a manager and hiring a lot of people, I used this strategy quite a bit. It works well. You are getting a good message from these people. Stick with it, but keep your eyes open. Plus, it’s a lot easier to find a job, when you have a job.
