Take Me Out to the Ballgame!
Dear Diary,
On Saturday, immediately after the birthday party we quickly stopped at home, unloaded from the party, reloaded for the baseball game with the Scouts and we were on our way.
I’m sure it might wear off but for now I can’t get enough of my little guy in his Tiger Cub uniform!
The plan was some pregame activities around the stadium, "tail gating" with the Scouts before the game, game, and then camping in the stadium overnight.
Sound exhausting after all the birthday fun that was already had? Reagan thinks so, too! He took a power nap in the car between the party and baseball event. He was still waking up here….
The nearly empty stadium…
As we made our way around the stadium we found a spot with bats and balls. We threw a few….
Here’s our local team….
As we made our way around the stadium we met up with our pack…
I liked this Boy Scout motto on the back of one of the older boys shirts…
They have a nice playground and Reagan enjoyed the climbing time…
Among the birthday party preparations I was also preparing for tailgating with the Scouts at the baseball game. I made cupcakes with little baseball detail….
I also made baskets full of Cracker Jacks and "Peanuts"…
There were a few comments about my treats, table cloth, dress, etc. They’ll get use to me and how I camp in dresses and like to make things pretty….. Maybe I’m a bit overwhelming initially. It’s what I do and who I am though….
The "peanuts"…
I used circus peanuts….
This might be the first time Reagan tried Cracker Jacks. It was his first real baseball game, too.
This boy is one of the leader’s sons and was fantastic with Reagan! I was so impressed by him. There is one other Tiger so far. This boy introduced the two, told them they have to make sure they say "hi" each time they see eachother, told them their now friends, made them hug. It was cute. And then he and Reagan figured out that they’re both big Minecraft fans and both enjoy the Minecraft videos on YouTube. I believe that is what they are discussing in this next picture….
Enjoying some strawberry shortcake!
He’s a cutie with his big cheesy grin here!
After the tailgate we waited in line a bit to get back in. Reagan was playing ring around the lightposts…
Once back in the stadium, before the game, the scouts paraded around the stadium and each pack was announced….
Making silly faces while they wait their turn…
Heading down to the field. Keith walked along with Reagan….
Once down on the field they huddled together for a pack cheer along with the baseball announcer /MC guy…..
The Barnstormer’s mascot….. Silo…
I caught Keith on the big screen….. It’s wonky though and unfortunately I didn’t get Reagan, too….
Making their way around…
And back up the stands…
Once we sat down the boys a few rows up told Reagan they saved him a seat and asked if he could come sit with them which was very nice….
They then asked if they could take him to the playground. I said yes and then followed along to watch…. Reagan found the Chick-Fil-A Cow…
Having fun!
This little guy in the seat is the other Tiger Cub….
When it was time for the National Anthem the older boy next to Reagan showed him how to hold his two fingers as a Cub Scout during the Anthem. They all did it really respectfully and Reagan followed suit….
I really, really appreciated the guidance they gave him…..
Here’s the olther little Tiger and I think this is adorable, too. I’m not sure how respectful it was for me to be snapping pics during the Anthem but I’m glad to have captured the moments.
This is a cute one. You can tell he’s having a good time. There was a really healthy game of tag between about 8 of the boys. The age range was broad but everyone was included and the older boys looked after the little ones to make sure they had a chance both to be it and to tag someone without too much frustration. I really appreciated the good, clean fun!
This guy is our Scout Master and he asked Reagan if he would buddy up with his oldest son and help out with a Pinewood Derby demonstration. I think Reagan felt honored to be asked….

This older boy with him to the right explained to him what his role and responsibility was.
As the cars finished there were a couple that Reagan would carry back to the start. He learned that they have to be carried carefully with respect so that the wheels, etc don’t get damaged…..
This was just a demo for those at the game using some of the better cars in the district….
I noticed this impressive collection of belt loops on a scout that was passing by. Reagan and I have been working on a few different belt loops together….
Back on the playground Reagan played a keep away hat game with the boy who guided him through the pinewood derby demo….
I don’t mention it too often but I live in Amish country. I thought this was a neat picture…
There really was a baseball game going on. I was pretty distracted from it though…
Our local team one. Fireworks followed the game….
After fireworks everyone, once again, cleared out of the stadium….
The guys gathered up their camp gear. Reagan is looking pretty sleepy!
I left at this point but Keith took a few pics on his phone of the stadium filled with tents…
They showed a movie on the big stadium screens but it sounds like both Keith and Reagan were tired and not too into the movie so they went to bed. I think the movie was Planet 51. It sprinkled a bit the next morning and the boys were home on Sunday (Father’s Day) by 8 or so.
I consider this event a complete success though. I’m really pleased with how the older boys are with the little guys in this pack.
Okay…. moving on….
What a fun event – and even more fun that they got to camp on the field after the game!! I love going to baseball games in the summer – summer isn’t complete with some good ‘ol American fun!

That was neat that the got to camp out there and watch a movie after the tail gating, playground, parade, game, fireworks.

about the comment about people asking you how you do it all. i think you are amazing 🙂 i am always wondering what you will do next. (so keep it up). the boyscouts event looks like a great time. i wonder if the amish boys are all brothers or related in some way. we get a few amish down this way but definately more towards lancaster.

ryn Thank you! That was very validating. I feel like I should TRY to keep them connected, at least, so I always have. I was surprised a few people said I shouldn’t send pictures or cards! I think that would just be something they would use against me later, “she never tried to include us!” or even Kasin as an adult might resent me for. I’ll keep it up, it’s just so hard. ~

I would love to have you in my group of parents. Keep positive and creative. RYN: each number lasts three to four minutes, and it moves right along; however there’s two shows on one day. It’s a big commitment.

Sounds like such an awesome pack! I loved my time as a scout, and it’s so great to hear that the older guys help lead the younger guys. And camping at the stadium? So cool!

I love how the older ones are so caring and careful to be great helpers and role models for the younger ones. I feel like maybe Gabe would have enjoyed boy scouts. Now I’m thinking getting Kai involved in girl scouts would be fun.

Phew! That wore ME out just looking through the photos. I’m sure you guys were exhausted!

I like Reagan’s short haircut! I feel like he is gonna learn loads from being a Scout. General in manners and respect, but hopefully he’ll make good friends too. Ashley
