Summer Plans
Dear Diary,
I am VERY relieved to write that Reagan officially has summer day camp plans! Last friday evening all three of us toured a facility that we all love. They will be able to work with my 4 days a week schedule. Their location (both building and playground) is very secure. Each week will have a theme. Once each week they will have a splash/water play day. Once a week they will have a field trip to do something like bowling, Chuck E Cheese, a farm trip, etc. They’ll have events like picnics and bike rodeos during the summer. Their hours are pretty flexible. We plan on having him there from about 8am to 3pm, 4 days a week but they have hours from 6:30am – 6pm. Their core teachers have 10 – 20 years with the facility. His group will be all kids that are in the summer between their Kindergarten and 1st Grade years. They think there will be about 15 kids with two teachers…. One lead teacher and one assistant. The program will be more relaxed than he is use to at school (and it should be a bit more so in the summer) but it is still similar enough that I feel really good about it. He will still get some curriculum. I did purchase both the math and literacy bridging workbooks from our school that I’ll work through with him to help retain what he’s worked hard to learn this year.
My 4 day a week schedule for the summer has been outlined. I’ll switch to 4 tens the first week of June and will have a four day weekend every other weekend for the shore. YaY!
I talked to my mom today about her summer visit. She’ll meet us at the beach camper on the third of July. We plan to do a week at the shore together. She will come home with us and spend about 8 days with us. Reagan will take that time off of camp to hang out with his Nanny. And we’ll end her 3 week stay with four more days at the shore.
I’ve signed Reagan up again for summer soccer. He’ll be doing that on Tuesday evenings in July and August.
I’ve been meaning to make contact with the Boy Scouts and finally got around to it. We’re attending an event with a promising troop this evening. If all goes well Reagan will join June 1st as a Tiger Cub. It looks like the standard meetings for this Scouts troop are on Thursdays.
In addition to all of the above we’ll need to work piano lessons in once a week still. That schedule has not yet been released.
The only other thing I would like to squeeze in is possibly a couple of riding lessons. For a couple of years he’s done Pony Camp and then Cowboy Camp. I don’t think we’ll do a camp but it would be nice if he could ride a time or two at the stable we have used in the past sometime over the summer.
That should be more than enough to keep us on the go and out of trouble…. whew!….. so much for the lazy days of summer!
Sounds like so much fun for him! I wish I could be a little kid and do what he is doing! I grew up in a small town with nothing really to offer–but my mom was a struggling single mom my whole life (to this day) so even if we lived where it was available, we couldn’t have afforded it. If I have children someday, I hope to give them all those opportunities like Reagan gets.

RYN: Thanks for the book suggestion, I’ll look into it. My kids love camp. They get upset if I pick them up early!

I just singed Eric up for a little ninja class. He doesn’t seem nearly as excited as I am.
