Mother’s Day Celebration *pics*

Dear Diary,

Mother’s Day is going to be hard to top after this year.  The Kindergarten Mother’s Day Celebration was really special.  We knew the kids had been working on some top secret project for what seems like a month but didn’t know the details.

When I first arrived at Reagan’s class for the event the kids were still on the playground.  I took the opportunity to snap a few playground pictures….  That’s him climbing….

Those are the four Kindergarten teachers.  I’ve loved this school year and I hate to see it end.  I’ve felt that way with PS and JK, too but going to first grade seems like such a big boy thing.

The kids had made each of their moms a tissue paper flower corsage….

And there was a spot set up for them in class with the book they wrote about their mom.

The kids came in and filled the spots….

The mommies were sitting facing them….  They had about 4 or 5 songs they sang for us in between reading their books….

Each child read their book to their mommy while the other kids and mommies listened….

Here is my book…. BEST MOM EVER…. awwwwww!  Written and Illistrated by Reagan

The inside cover….

Most of these will require translation.  During Writer’s Workshop they write unassisted and just do their very best.  My Mom helps me remember so I can remember to put up my gingerbread man. (This is how they sign in to class each morning.  They hang up a gingerbread nametag on one of the boards in class.)

I like my Mom’s dresses.  My Mom looks beautiful no mater what. (so sweet!)

They were using the microphone app on one of the teacher’s phones.  That is why he is holding an iPhone to his mouth.

My Mom works at _______ Country Day School.  Sometimes she has car duty.   (The week he was wrting this I was assigned to arrival duty in the Lower School and was greeting the kids who were arriving by car.)

My Mom makes the best mashed potatoes.  I like butter on my mashed potatoes.

She makes me pumpkin bread.

I like to play Mousetrap with my Mommy.

My Mommy loves me because she lets me play on her Android.  I love my Mom, too.

It was very sweet….

Some of the other classmates and their mommies….

Following the reading of the books and their songs we took a walk through the Kindergarten Art Show.  All grades are displaying lots of art in the school right now.  This is just the Kindergarten section…  Reagan and one of his little buddies being boys….

Reagan’s Henri Rosseau is this close one with the striped sunset…

This next one is an illustrator…. Leo Leoni….  Reagan is pointing to his…

Matisse….

Audubon…. These bird sketches were pretty cool.

Paul Klee….

After taking in thier art we headed down the Middle School hall and into the Dinning Commons together….

And we enjoyed lunch together….

Reagan also made this painting… Mom and Me  of us at the beach.  That is a dolphin to the left, he and I in the center, a crab below and I think he said to the right is our beach cart.  It was sent home laminated and I think it’s a keepsake!

He goes to the computer lab each week.  One of his visits to the lab he made this card with a picture of me on it….

Another week he created this below….  Reagan likes to help his mom and dad paint and build.  He goes to _______ Country Day School.  He lives with his dog Woody and his mom and dad.

I really love all the things Reagan made but Keith and Reagan did each pick out a card for me as well….

Moving on to another subject now….

A year or two ago I saw some really cute popsicle swim trunks on a little boy on the beach.  I decided to Google to see if I could find a pair possibly second hand for Reagan.  It turned out that the brand is Boden and they still have them available new.  While on their site I found a second pair of swim trunks that I fell for, too.  They had buy 3 get the 4th item for $1 so I picked out shirts, too.  I had not heard of this brand before but I recognized their t-shirts.  They are knit/t shirt type material apliqued onto the base shirts.  Pretty cute.  They didn’t have an exact match for the popsicle shorts but I thought Reagan would think the octopus shirt waspretty cool.    I think the next set with the striped shirt and then the swim trunks with the beach balls and buckets is adorable.  Hopefully Reagan goes for it.  They are European sizes but had the boys clothes listed by age.  Reagan is about to turn 6.  I chose size 7/8 in all of it.  We’ll see how the sizing is when it arrives.  He’s set for this summer so ideally it will start to work for next summer.  The prices weren’t fantastic but I went with it anyway.  With the buy 3 get the fourth for $1 and free shipping the total came to $76 for the 4 items.  So $18 each piece.  I probably usually only spend about $5-$10 an item but really did love the shorts especially.  They should put smiles on my face for a couple of summers.

I’m still waiting to hear back on the summer program for Reagan.  I have a few unanswered emails and now a phone message.  Might be a bad sign.  Surely they would call back if there was a spot.  I recieved a lead on another program today that sounds promising.  I’ll be so relieved when something is set for him.

aww how sweet 🙂

I love the art sampling that they tried. I would love for Colin’s art teacher to do that. I just got Colin his swim shorts for this summer. He’s invited to a birthday pool party on June 1st and I am blown away that it’s almost JUNE!

I love the clothes you picked out. The prices are not bad. The kids flowers turned out lovely.

I like how they introduce artists to the kids.

That is so sweet what he wrote! I have loved K4 this year for Zack. Love all the pictures

Ohh, that book is definitely a keeper! Hah, if I turn my head to the left I can see the poster that Jack made ME for Mother’s Day when HE was in kindergarten. It still makes me say, “Awwwww.” 😉
