Full Speed Ahead *pics*

Dear Diary,

Oh My! Life is full of so many exciting, out of the routine things right now I can barely keep up! *deep breath!*  It’s all good, fun stuff but just a bit hard to keep up with.  We had a really fun weekend that included a soccer party, a birthday pool party and then camping/fishing.  Monday we were back to school/work.  That evening I finished up the teacher gifts which kept me up later than I expected it to.  Tuesday was an end of the school year field trip.  Today was the final day of school which was a half day / field day.  Lots of picture taking going on!  And I’m about to overload OD with them.

Reagan did his first soccer session in the spring.  He is signed up for a summer session but in between the two this little celebration was scheduled.  We invited the little boy next door to join us.  He was doing so well with it all and then all of the sudden he quit and wanted no more to do with it.  I don’t think he’ll be continuing with us this summer.

Here is the little neighbor guy….

They were doing a little Simon Says type game and were told to put their elbow on the ball….

bottom on the ball….

Getting their next instructions….

Going for the ball…

This bitty guy in the backgroud is so tiny and cute!

Kicking the ball into the net!

Soccer Shots huddle at the end….

Between soccer and the birthday party we stopped at Target and bought the $650 worth of giftcards for all the Kindergarten teachers on behalf of the class.

Onto the birthday party!

They had a really cute whale in their kiddie pool!

And lots of sprinkler areas…

Fun with the girls!

He gave the whale a tongue rub…. I think he learned in Free Willy that they like that???

Hanging out…. literally….

Unfortunately, we had a scary pool incident at this point.  Most of the pool area was a kiddie section and less than 3 feet.  Even so I was standing along side with a coworker / Kindergarten dad chit-chatting.  Most of the mom’s were at one end of the pool in a bench area talking.  The kids could take a swim test, get a wrist band and use the water slide if they wanted to.  There was a little section of buoy between the shallow pool and then a deeper one.  When they first crossed the buoys they could still touch in the area close to the buoys.  Fortunately, I was paying enough attention that I saw Reagan cross under the buoys.  I wasn’t overly concerned because I saw a couple of other Kindergarten boys that had crossed and could still touch.  But I did choose to leave my conversation with  the other parent mid sentence and go take a closer look.  One of the other little boys ended up getting a bit further out than he could touch.  Reagan was still touching but the other boy began to panic and was grabbing for Reagan.  He pulled Reagan out where he couldn’t touch either.  I was telling the boy not to hang on Reagan while putting my camera and keys down.  Both boys were sinking and the other boy was pushing Reagan down while he tried to get higher in the water.  I jumped in fully clothed at that point.  I could touch and easily pulled both boys to the side of the pool.  Reagan was so upset.  I calmed him down and someone alerted the other boys mom and she came over.  All is well that ends well but it was frightening.  I feel vey lucky that I saw.  I try to pay close attention but it is easy to get caught up in a conversation.  There was a lifeguard on duty.  I don’t know what hesaw but because I saw it all unfold through mom eyes I responded before they did.  Doesn’t really matter.  All that matters is my boy is okay.  I had my swim suit on under my clothes since we were camping later that day but there wasn’t time to undress.  Since I was already all wet I talked Reagan into going back in and I swam with him.  The other dad joined in swimming, too.  Reagan is still pretty upset.  He told me later that day, "I would have died."  He did work hard at swimming stronger the next day.  I think this is a tricky age.  They’re more independent in the water but aren’t strong swimmers yet.  I will be watching him really closely while in the water for sure.    The boy wrote a nice thank you / sorry letter when he returned to school Monday.  By that point he had told his mom more about what happened and the next time I saw her she also made sure to say thanks.  I’m not sure she did while at the pool.  It doesn’t really matter but it did cross my mind that I didn’t remember her saying thanks that day.  I’m not sure it had hit her that her son almost accidentally drowned both himself and my son and that we were lucky that I saw it happen so I could get them out.  My mom had a rotten dream about 10 days prior about Reagan drowning and had mentioned it to me maybe a week ago.  She said she was feeling sensitive about Reagan being in the water.  I didn’t think much of it at the time but she does have a history of odd premonition type situations.  I’m not sure I even belive in that sort of thing.  It could be a coincidence but it’s a bit of a strange one in hindsight.

Just a few more pics from at the Pool Party Birthday after swimming…

The party room….

And a couple of group shots…  Almost all of the kids are classmates.  As of this afternoon they’re rising FIRST GRADERS!  There are a few older kids (siblings) in the back row though.

Reagan is doing kissy lips to the girl next to him.  It is one of the girls he loooooves!

And then a silly face pic….

This incident, although significant, didn’t damper the rest of the weekend.  We had a fantastic camping weekend that I’ll share in the next entry.

Yikes. You are a really good mom. That is really great of you to write out and share here. I’m sure there are quite a few moms who will read that and pay even closer attention to their kids while swimming now.

So glad you were there!

I’m so glad that both boys are okay!

I totally get what you’re saying about your mom. I am very much like her and try my best to speak up when I have a feeling about something. Thank God you were attentive!

So glad you were keeping an eye on Reagan! It’s one of the things that scares me about having kids!

June 5, 2013

Wow! That is a bit scary. I’m glad you were alert to see what was going on. One of my biggest fears is drowning. I’m glad both boys are okay. *HUGS*

How scary! Good thing your were watching.

Definitely scary, so glad you were watching! That’s really strange about your mom’s dream. I’m not sure I believe in stuff like that either but it is a weird coincidence.

I am so sorry to hear about Reagan’s scary swim experience! I’m sure the little boy was grasping for Reagan because he was scared and probably didn’t know what to do, but I’m so thankful you were keeping tabs to rescue them. Way o go mom! Ashley

What a scary moment, I’m sure. It’s so incredible how your mom and my mom can “feel something” and then it happens. That always happens to us! I’m so glad you were watching like a good parent you are and dove in and got the boys. Thank God!
