Today, and every other day
It’s been awhile since I wrote here. You find when you haven’t’ written in a very long time you try to write about everything you’ve been up to, but it’s totally superficial and you really don’t get into anything too deep? And then you go "fuck…so much more happened, and I want to write it but it’s just so overwhelming"? You know that feeling?
Ya, I’m having that right now. So, instead of trying to catch up like we’re old college friends, let’s just talk about today. This happened in my life today:
Today I skipped out of work early. I told my boss I had to go Thanksgiving shopping and wanted to beat the rush. It’s wasn’t an exact fib. I did go shopping, but not for food.
We went to drive cars. Mike’s lease is up and we have 2 months to figure something else out for the new car. We drove like 8 cars… all at the our local BMW dealership. We are trying to work the best deal, and trying to think ahead when we have kids. What will we need? What size? Should we get the big SUV with the third row seat? or the fun little sports car?
Turns out we are going to get the new X3… can’t beat the lease deal.
I was trying to get Mike to get a new Kia Optima Hybrid, but like I expected, he wasn’t having it. He’s too much of a car guy…as am I.
Ski season is upon us. Sunday will be my first time up this season. This year, I really need to document the trips and the weather. I want to see how many times I’ve been up with accuracy.
My new car is all hooked up for the snow. Studded Snow Tires, check. Ski pass, check. Ski box mounted to the roof, check. Gas money…um… I’m broke after spending all the money on the above items. Thank goodness I have friends who are filling my tank in exchange for to drive.
Weather has been really hairy the last few days. Huge storm has been blowing through and dumping crazy rain in the valley…which means mucho snow on the mountain! Yay!!!!
I’m going to my aunt’s tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner. Thank goodness, all we have to bring is wine. It’s a nice change from hosting. I’m all about showing up with a couple 750ml’s and leave at the end of the evening. Of course, now we are going to have to host Christmas.
on the Adoption Front:
We are thhhiiiissss close to having our Home Study and classes completed for the adoption. We are cleared for Foster Care now and last week we had to decline 5 year old twins. Boy and Girl. Mom and Dad are homeless and KAAAHHHRRAAAZZZZYYYY. But the kids plan now is to return to parents. Which we don’t want to deal with. We are remaining firm that we only want kids that can be adopted. Once they are ours… they are OURS. No give backs. Our hearts can’t deal with a rotating door of children coming through our home.
This whole process has been very trying. The race for the "good" kids is INTENSE. mmmmmm…. seems everyone one is in the market for cute blond hair/blue eyed lightly neglected/abused children that don’t have any lasting emotional scars… who would of thought?
We’ve already set our sights on a few sibling groups…and everyone gets adopted with the quickness. Which is GREAT for the kids. I do feel bad for the scores of children who have been on the website for like years. They are usually developmentally challenged, fetal alcohol syndrome, or autistic. Sad.
But, as a parent I know my limits.
The X3 is a good choice. Has all the ability of the X5 in a smaller package, and the new ones have more of a modern luxury feel than the older ones, which I felt lacked a bit of style. Insanely safe as well. Good choice on that one! Although, I think you should have looked into a Subaru too, but as a Bimmer guy myself, I would have ultimately chosen the X3. The X-Drive is handy for ski trips!

RYN: Have you looked at the 535 Gran Turismo with X-Drive? That may suit your needs, but is high on the price range, about $58k. Twin turbo V6… they also have it as a 550 with an 8… but yeah, the Twin Turbo is more fun!
