Because I”m Gay.

The ice storm came this weekend.  Thank goodness that I had scheduled myself off, and another server to take my place.  We ended up not opening at all though.

Mike and I where supposed to have some friends come over for dinner on Saturday evening.  Which of course didn’t happen.  Everything here was covered with 3 inches of ice.  And slick as hell.  Lucky for the city, it happened on a Saturday morning when most everyone was home, and didn’t have to drive.  The pictures on the news still showed many people being stupid and trying to drive their Mazda Miata.  Dumb asses!

I am getting very “over” work.  I am just anxious to start the new job.  Which I have been calling “my next life”….  I feel like this is a new beginging and a time to take over position of my time.  For the last year, I have lived virtually at work.  It became such a routine, that I didn’t realize how much time I was spending away from home.  I will finally get time to go to the gym.  Take off these extra pounds and spend time with Michael again.

And the best part:  20 paid days off a year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Setting around the house this weekend was nice.  Mike and I got some house work done that we had been neglecting, and I got caught up on my Vanity Fair reading (which I can now do on my 45 min train ride to work everymorning at the new job)

Did I mention I’m excited about this.  One issue that will interesting to work through will be the fact that Cindy, my friend and soon to be boss, is not very well liked by my soon to be coworkers.  Their is some bitterness towards her because she was promoted from another department to be their supervisor, while they all expected that one of the girls from the department would be promoted.   So the issue is that she’s an “outsider” blah blah.  Cindy and I are going to play down the friendship, so I can be her “spy”.  Plus getting to see her everyday will be a huge uplifter everyday… oh, did I mention I get to be HOME every night?    That I get paid OVERTIME..

Another cool thing I found out:  Because Minimum wage went up over New Years, I am starting out about $1 more an hour than most of the other employees in the department.  Cindy told me this and SWORE me to secrecy because one of the BIG NO NO’s of the company is talking about compensation.

So there has been some people ask me if Cindy being my boss will be an issue.  Especially, since we are such good friends.  And to this I answer: No, it won’t be a issue.  One of the great things about our friendship is that she was my boss for several years.  So, we have the working relationship down.  What is also really good, is we are so close, that if there is an issue with my performance, then she would just tell me, and we would work on the problem.    I don’t aniticipate any issues though since I am a very hard worker and the job really isn’t rocket science.  Hopefully within 2 years I will be promoted into a supervisor position because of my managment experience I have comming into the gig.

We’ll see.

Food related:  On Sunday I made Triangoli (think triangle shaped ravioli) filled with gorgonzola, goat chees,a nd garlic.  I made a red sauce with garlic basil chicken sausage, pork mild italian sausage, and spicy chicken sausage. WOW, it was fantastic.  parred it with a bottle of 1998 Borrello (I know, still kind of young) and great conversation.   Our friend’s Mike and Shiela brought over thier 2 kids.  The kids spent 5 hours chasing and playing with the dogs.  It was great.

We are all thinking about going on vacation together this summer.   Last summer they rented a house on the beach for 2 weeks and we went and spent the night there.  This summer we are talking about all heading up to Canada to my family’s cabin (40 acres on a lake), and maybe stopping in Vancouver BC and spending a few days there.  How fun would that be!!!

mmm, those ravioli sound heavenly! The weather seems to be worse where you live than here. I just hope that the wonderful hedge that Mike planted is holding up well 🙂

I’m excited for you… it may be because you’re so excited, but probably more because you get to spend time with those you love, and get paid overtime, and you get 20 days of vacation. your triangoli sound amazing (too bad I don’t eat cheese). Enjoy your “new life” Take care;)

“one of the BIG NO NO’s of the company is talking about compensation” Most companies who follow this policy, generally pay most of their employees quite poorly, while paying a few much more.
