The mountain has come to me!

Now that Christmas is almost here, have you ever had something that you’ve wanted to do, or a place that you wanted to visit for a particular reason? But yet in order to visit or partake in said desire, you must spend a lot of time, effort and maybe money. That is, if your wish is even something that you can realistically accomplish. In my case, this thing/place is something I discovered a few months ago, in a series of videos that one day appeared in my feed. The main barrier for me was location, as this place is located a couple of states away and more than one day’s drive. The second barrier was my husband, who blanched at the thought of me going to this place and doing this thing. It was a total killjoy to know he was not at all on board with my plan. But I kept this fire of desire burning in the back of my mind, hoping against all odds that someday it would come to fruition. Somehow there had to be a way for me to accomplish my new goal.

Since then, some time has gone by, and I figured I’d pursue this avenue in the coming year, hopefully figuring out how to work it in on a roller coaster trip. As well as hoping to persuade my husband to give me his blessing. But sometimes, on rare occasion, that very thing that I seek ends up appearing in my own backyard! This reminds me of the old saying about moving the mountain to you if you are unable to get to the mountain. Well, it isn’t literally in my backyard, but as I was perusing a news feed the other day and lo and behold, a very similar thing has come to me! Just imagine that something you would have to take a long trip to do or see is now less than an hour away from you… For me, this is a thing I never though I’d ever want to do (regardless of location), but now I feel it is something I MUST do. Of all of the roller coasters and rides I’ve been on, there is another thrill ride of sorts which for me, has always been (pardon the expression) a bridge too far. Speaking of bridges, this sort of activity is often associated with such structures. So yes, I had discovered that there is an old decommissioned railroad bridge in Kentucky that hosts a bungee jumping outfit. Despite my thrill seeking background, the idea seemed utterly terrifying. But something was compelling me to consider it, to mull in my mind the idea of jumping off a bridge or other tall structure for what might be the ultimate thrill (or terror). As I was thinking about that, I was recently made aware that an opportunity to do exactly the same thing had appeared on the horizon. Lo and behold, a similar such outfit is setting up shop right next door to me in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia! That is only about an hour away. Unfortunately no  bridge will be involved, rather in this case the jumping platform is a repurposed construction crane perched over an old abandoned water filled quarry. But I can use my imagination….or perhaps I might too scared to care! And this time, my husband said to go for it. Either way, this outfit is selling discounted passes for when it opens later this coming spring. And guess who is going to buy such a pass? That will give me a good long time to think about it.
