The anticipation of Sunday morning
In less than 48 hours I will be getting up before the dawn and heading south to Annapolis, a little over an hour or so away. I will have to leave my home by no later than a quarter after six in order to arrive by 7:30 at the parking lot in which I have reserved a space. Then I (along with lots of other people) will board a bus which will take us to a predetermined spot not far from the very thing for which I am willing to forfeit two or three hours of sleep. There we will wait until nine am for when our four and a half mile long journey begins. But even if I am sleep deprived I know I’ll be so stoked it won’t matter. Again this afternoon I heard on the radio a promotion of this Sunday morning event. I am thinking this may be somewhat like a coaster event, but without the coaster or amusement park. In place of that is something equally fantastic and rarely seen up close by the average person. My preparation is similar – deciding what I’ll wear and what I will bring with me. Even though it will be jacket weather, I am still planning on wearing a very eye-catching t-shirt. I have one with a pair of red-eyed dragons facing each other. In some ways I think that is appropriate and symbolic, considering where I will be walking. Then there is the matter of a music playlist I plan on listening to on the way to Annapolis. I have a fondness for classic heavy metal of the 80’s and so that will help me wake up and get me fired up. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Led Zepplin, Dokken, Judas Priest, and so on. That musical genre is also most appropriate, I think, as there will be metal, and lots of it, beneath my feet that morning. To tread upon the spine of one of those steel serpents (my symbolism of the two twin dragons) that span the bay is something I’ve wanted to do for ages. And it appears it will happen very soon.
