Still life photography

Back in my college days I had the opportunity to do some studio still life photography, which included the use of a borrowed 4X5 camera which the school would lend out to students.  If you aren’t familiar with this sort of camera, it is of the type where the user must have a blanket over their head and the camera to keep the light out while making the exposure.  The “4×5” refers to the size of the negative, which, when compared to negatives used in the average consumer camera,  is huge.  The advantage of using a bigger negative is of course your print will have much greater detail and can be enlarged significantly without losing detail.  Some of these studio shots (the ones in color) were shot on slide film, which is just the opposite of a negative.  You can take a strong magnifying glass and see the weave of fabrics and other intricate textures in these slides.

I also did still life photos with my own 35mm camera at home.  Here are more of these pictures – I’ve included links because the resolution is much better than posting them here.
